Ecumenical Patriarch will visit Mount Athos in October

On Saturday, August 3, a Delegation of the Holy Community of Mount Athos, consisting of Monk Nikodemos Lavriotis, Monk Nikodemos Agiopavlitis and Hieromonk Sisois Xenofontinos, had a cooperation with Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, so as to schedule the visit by Bartholomew to Mount Athos, 19-22 October.

On Saturday, October 19, the Ecumenical Patriarch will arrive at Xenophontos Monastery, his first stop on Mount Athos. At the Arsanas (a small port that only the monks have the access) of the Monastery there shall take place the official welcome of Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew by the Abbot, the Holy Primates and the Representatives of the 20 Athonite Holy Monasteries.

Tonsure of a new monk at The Patriarchate of Jerusalem

The monk’s tonsure of the novice and helper of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre Basil took place at the Pentecost chapel in the Patriarchate on Thursday afternoon, July 19/ August 1, 2019. The tonsure was performed by H.H.B. our Father and Patriarch of Jerusalem Theophilos at the presence of Geronda Sacristan Archbishop Isidoros of Hierapolis, Geronda Secretary-General Archbishop Aristarchos of Constantina, Archbishop Methodios of Tabor, Archbishop Demetrios of Lydda and Secretary of the Holy and Sacred Synod, Metropolitan Joachim of Helenoupolis and other Hagiotaphite Fathers, the Archimandrites Bartholomew and Nectarios, and the ministering Fathers of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.

Kiev Patriarchate now officially liquidated following OCU Synod decision, says Ukrainian Ministry of Culture

Despite the public insistences and legal maneuverings of “Patriarch” Philaret Denisenko, the Ukrainian Ministry of Culture has declared his “Kiev Patriarchate” (KP) to be officially liquidated.

According to the relevant statement from the Ministry today, the KP ceased to exist when it joined the “Orthodox Church of Ukraine” (OCU) in December. Philaret and the handful of bishops who have remained loyal to him have countered that although they joined the OCU at the “unification council,” neither the ecclesiastical nor legal procedure for liquidating the KP was ever carried out.

Meeting of Orthodox Young Women in the heart of Africa

For the first time, representatives of young girls from the parish of the Holy Metropolis of Kinshasa met and held a seminar-camp.

Following the successful event of the young boys of the parish, that was recently held for the second time, the girls stayed at the premises of the Church of the Holy Archangels. The meeting lasted four days.

Memorial service for Russian sailors who had died in Bosphorus Strait in 1917

On 28th July 2019, Russia’s Navy Day and the Day of the Baptism of Russia, at the residence of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Istanbul, Rev. Georgy Sergeyev, acting rector of the Church of Ss. Constantine and Helen in the territory of Russia’s Consulate General, who is responsible for taking pastoral care of the Moscow Patriarchate’s flock in Turkey, celebrated the memorial service at the burial place of the Russian sailors from the Morzh submarine. The sailors died while conducting a combat mission in the Bosphorus Strait in spring of 1917.
