On Thursday, August 8, Metropolitan Theodosius of Kananga, with his missionary escort and after a laborious journey, arrived in the village of Bilomba to oversee the construction of the Church of the Annunciation of Virgin Mary. This Holy Church is built with the blessings of Patriarch Theodore II of Alexandria and all Africa.

Jerusalem: Feast of the Holy Righteous Martyr Paraskeve

On Thursday, July 26/ August 8, 2019, the Patriarchate celebrated the commemoration of the Holy Righteous Martyr Paraskeve at the chapel of the Holy Monastery of St. Basil, where the icon of the Saint is being kept. The Saint confessed Christ in Rome, was tortured and beheaded during the reign of Emperor Anthony in the year 140 A.D.

In honour of the Saint, the Divine Liturgy was celebrated on the morning of the feast by Priest Nikitas and Archdeacon Mark, under the chanting of nuns with the participation of monks, nuns and laity. At the end of the Divine Liturgy the good keeper of the Monastery reverend Abbess Thecla offered a reception to all present at the hegoumeneion.

Memorial service for the late Archbishop Makarios III of Cyprus at the Metropolis of Nairobi

Metropolitan Makarios of Nairobi celebrated with pomp the Divine Liturgy at the Church of the Transfiguration on the outskirts of Nairobi, in Kamagoo.  At the end of the Divine Liturgy, the Metropolitan held the annual memorial service for Archbishop Makarios III of Cyprus. In his speech, the Metropolitan referred to the role and the great contribution of the late with the establishment of the Patriarchal School that really serves the pastoral functions and the missionary needs of the Patriarchate of Alexandria and all Africa.

Restoration work completed at St. Catherine’s Monastery on Mt. Sinai

Many years of restoration work at the ancient St. Catherine’s Monastery, carried out under the auspices of the Egyptian Ministry of Antiquities, have been completed.

During the project, the territory surrounding the monastery was landscaped, the roads leading to the monastery and to Mount Moses were repaired, larger parking spaces for buses were created, and an electronic security system was installed, reports Romfea.

Visit of the Ecumenical Patriarch to the new Mayor of Silivri

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, accompanied by Metropolitans Emmanuel of France and Maximos of Silivri, and Dimitar Atanasov, advisor and legal counsel of the Great Church of Christ, paid a courtesy visit today, August 7, to the new Mayor of Silivri, Volkan Yilmaz. In the afternoon, the Ecumenical Patriarch officiated at the liturgy of the Theotokion of the Small Paraklesis held in the Holy Chapel of the Holy Unmercenaries, in the Nursing Home of Valoukli (Balikli) Charities. The Ecumenical Patriarch then served a Trisagion for the soul of the late Metropolitan Panteleimon of Tyroloi and Serention, who died today at the age of 90.

The Metropolitan of Berat ordained a new Presbyter

On the day of the Transfiguration of the Savior, Metropolitan Ignat of Berat, who officiated at the Cathedral of St. Demetrius, ordained Deacon John Kiakos a Presbyter and at the same time gave him the office of the Protopresbyter. 

The Metropolitan spoke of the genuine mission of the priest, who brings upon him, in his soul, in his “being”, the grace of God, and can contribute to the transformation of man.
