Hundreds celebrate Pascha in Shanghai cathedral for first time since 1965

The Orthodox faithful of Shanghai had double cause for celebration this year on the feast of Pascha, as they were able to celebrate the feast in the Cathedral of the “Surety of Sinners” Icon of the Mother of God for the first time in more than 50 years. Several hundred believers from China, Russia, Serbian, Greece, Moldova, France, Italy, Germany, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, the U.S., Canada, and several other countries attended the festal service on Sunday morning in the cathedral, located on the territory of the former French concession, reports TASS.

On May 2, 2019, the festive vespers was celebrated at the church of Protomartyr George the Conqueror in Old Cairo. The solemn divine service timed for the commemoration day of St. George was presided over by His Beatitude Theodoros, Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa. His Beatitude was assisted by Metropolitan Nikodim of Memphis, Metropolitan Niphon of Pelusia, Bishop Theodore of Babylon; Rev. Victor Kulaga, representative of the Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia to the Patriarch of Alexandria, and Cairo clergy.

King Abdullah II makes donation to Church of the Holy Sepulchre restoration

The Patriarch of the Holy City of Jerusalem and all Palestine and Jordan, Theophilus III, expressed his appreciation and gratitude on behalf of himself, members of the Holy Synod, the Brotherhood of the Holy Sepulchre, the clergy and members of the Greek Orthodox Church of Jerusalem for His Majesty King Abdullah II who made a donation for restoring of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem at his own expense.

Certificate awards at The Patriarchate schools in Jordan

On Wednesday evening of the Bright Week, April 18/ May 1, 2019, the ceremony of the School leaving certificates of the Patriarchate Schools in Jordan, namely “Patriarch Diodoros” of Madaba, Fuheis and Zarka, took place at the reception hall of the Cultural Centre in Amman. H.H.B. our Father and Patriarch of Jerusalem Theophilos honoured the ceremony with His presence, as He came from Jerusalem escorted by the Most Reverend Archbishop Aristarchos of Constantina, the Most Reverend Archbishop Christophoros of Kyriakoupolis and the Dean Priest Issa Mousleh.

Bright and Glorious Resurrection of Christ: Celebration of Holy Pascha in Pakistan

With the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion, Archbishop of Eastern America and New York, First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, on April 28, 2019, the ROCOR faithful in Pakistan joyfully participated in the Paschal Divine Liturgy. The congregation was given the chance to prepare themselves during the Holy week. The parishioners participated in the services starting from Palm Sunday; it is the most joyous feasts of the year, as we commemorate the Entrance of our Lord into Jerusalem and with full passion and true spirit the Orthodox faithful were taught well by Fr.Joseph Farooq how to follow the holy traditions of the Orthodox Church during the Passion Week. All the main services were well attended, with many parishioners receiving the sacrament of Confession and Holy Communion.

Sumy Diocese of Ukrainian Church raises $40,000 for children with cancer

More than $40,000 (1.07 million Ukrainian hryvnia) was raised this year in the 9th annual “Bright Deeds for the Bright Day” charity event of the Sumy Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The proceeds benefit children with cancer and will be transferred to the Department of Oncology and Nematology of the Sumy Regional Children’s Hospital, reports the site of the Sumy Diocese.
