On the second Sunday of Lent, 24 March 2019, His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch officiated Hierarchal Liturgy in the Cathedral church of Descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles in Nis with the concelebration of the Diocesan Bishop, His Grace Arsenije of Nis.

After the Divine Liturgy, the memorial service (panichida) for all those who had lost their lives during the inhumane NATO aggression in 1999 was served. The Cathedral church was full with the faithful.

On Sunday, March 17, 2019, the Sunday of Orthodoxy and First Sunday of Great Lent, His All-Holiness solemnly concelebrated the Divine Liturgy together with Metropolitans Elder Dimitrios of the Princes’ Islands, Augustinos of Germany, Germanos of Tranoupolis, Sotirios of Toronto, Makarios of Aneon, Eugenios of Rethymno and Avlopotamos, Amphilochios of Ganou and Chora, Damaskinos of Kydonia and Apokoronos, Nathanael of Kos and Nisyros, Constantine of Singapore, and Chrysostomos of Symi. During the Liturgy, the Patriarch ordained Mr. Dimitrios Nikiforos to the Diaconate, giving him the name Aetius.

Metropolitan Porfirije received by Croatian Prime Minister Plenkovic

Serbian Orthodox Metropolitan Porfirije of Zagreb-Ljubljana visited the President of the Government of Republic of Croatia Mr. Andrej Plenkovic at Banski Dvori in Zagreb on 18 March 2019.

Prime Minister Plenkovic and Metropolitan Porfirije expressed a desire to continue dialogue and partnership between representatives of the Government and State institutions with representatives of Churches and religious communities in Croatia.

The working sessions of the Hierarchy Synod have begun

The working sessions of the extraordinary session of the Holy Synod of the Hierarchy of the Church of Greece, under the presidency of Archbishop Ieronymos, began today, Tuesday, March 19.

The working sessions commenced after the service of the Divine Liturgy in the Katholikon of Pammegiston Taxiarchon of the Petraki Monastery, led by Metropolitan Ieronymos of Larissa.

The hierarchs, clergy, monastics, and faithful of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church were out in force yesterday, sanctifying the streets of their cities and towns with cross processions in honor of the Sunday of Orthodoxy, when the Church commemorates the great triumph over the iconoclasts and proclaims the truth of the one Orthodox Church.
