The Sunday of Orthodoxy at the Patriarchate of Jerusalem

On Sunday March 4/17, 2019, the Sunday of Orthodoxy was celebrate by the Patriarchate at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.

On this First Sunday of the Holy and Great Lent, the Church celebrates the triumph of the Restoration of the holy Icons by the Emperor Mihail and his mother St. Theodora and by the Patriarch St. Methodios the Confessor, after one a half centuries of persecution and destruction of the icons by the iconoclasts.

Celebration of Sunday of Orthodoxy in South Australia

The Sunday of Orthodoxy was celebrated this year as well at the Greek Orthodox Community and Parish of Prophet Elias, at Norwood, South Australia.

In the morning, the Divine Liturgy and the Matins of Saint Basil the Great, at the Holy Church of Prophet Elias Norwood, was held by father Stavros Psaromatis.

King Philippe of Belgium attended the celebration of Sunday of Orthodoxy

The Sunday of Orthodoxy was celebrated in the Holy Metropolis of Belgium in the presence of King Philippe of Belgium, on Sunday, March 17.

Metropolitan Athenagoras of Belgium and the Exarch of the Netherlands and Luxembourg officiated the Inter-Orthodox Divine Liturgy, accompanied by Metropolitan Chrysostomos of Kyrenia, Bishop Dositheus from the Georgian Patriarchate and clerics of all Orthodox denominations in Belgium, while Bishop Marcos from the Romanian Patriarchate prayed during the Divine Liturgy, which took place at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Archangels Michael and Gabriel in Brussels.

Sunday of Orthodoxy celebrated at Evangelismos Church in the presence of the President of the Republic

Yesterday, in the presence of the President of Greek Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos, the Sunday of Orthodoxy, the Restoration of the Holy Icons, was celebrated.

The Synodical Divine Liturgy was held at the Metropolitan Church of Evangelismos, presided by Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece and assisted by Metropolitans Seraphim of Kythira, Chrysostomos of Patra, Cosmas of Aetolia, Jeremiah of Gortynos, Dionisios of Corinth, Theocletus of Ierissos, Panteleimon of Maroneia, Georgios of Kitrous, Maximus of Ioannina, Chariton of Elasson, David of Grevena and the Archsecretary of the Holy Synod Bishop Klimis of Methonis.

Greek Synod appoints two commissions to study Ukrainian issue

The permanent Holy Synod of the Greek Orthodox Church met under the chairmanship of His Beatitude Archbishop Ieronymos of Athens and All Greece from March 5-7, discussing various issues, including relations between the Church and state, and the Ukrainian crisis. As OrthoChristian previously reported, no final decision was made about whether or not to recognize the Ukrainian schismatic church.

The Minister of Defence visited the Patriarch of Alexandria

Patriarch Theodore of Alexandria and all Africa met with the Minister of Defence Evangelos Apostolakis in connection with the official visit of the Minister in Egypt.

The Minister of Defence was accompanied by Ambassador of Greece to Egypt Michael Diamesis and Consul General of Greece in Alexandria Athanasios Kotsionis.
