On Saturday, November 25 / December 8, 2018, the Patriarchate celebrated the commemoration of the Holy Great Martyr Catherine at the Holy Monastery dedicated to her, which lies a stone’s throw away opposite the Patriarchate on the North side, at the heart of the Christian Quarter.

On December 7, 2018, a session of the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church was held in the residence of the primate of the UOC on the territory of the Holy Dormition-Kiev Caves Lavra in which the hierarchs addressed the upcoming so-called “unification council” and the Ukrainian state’s increasing interference in the life of and persecution against the Church. His Grace Bishop Veniamin of Southern Bessarabia on Saturday, Dec. 8, celebrated the Divine Liturgy at St Theodora Church of Sihastria Monastery commemorating Archimandrite Cleopas Ilie, one of Romania’s charismatic elders of the past century, on the 20th anniversary of his blessed repose. Elder Cleopas was an abbot of Sihastria Monastery and a well-known spiritual figure of the Romanian Orthodox Church.
First church dedicated to St Porphyrios of Kavsokalyva consecrated in Romania

On Sunday, Metropolitan Laurențiu of Transylvania performed the consecration service of the first church dedicated to St. Porphyrios in Romania. The church belongs to Bod Colonie Parish in Brașov and the main patronal feast of the church is the Ascension of the Lord. Metropolitan Laurențiu of Transylvania explained the symbolism of the consecration service of a church.

According to the official communiqué of the Holy and Sacred Synod of the Ecumenical Throne on November 29, 2018: “The Holy and Sacred Synod, in unanimously accepting the proposal of the Autonomous Church of Finland under the Ecumenical Patriarchate, recorded in the Hagiologion of the Orthodox Church the Venerable John of Valaam (1873-1958), and the Holy Martyr and Confessor John of Ilomantsi (1884-1918), both of whom lived and worked there.”
