A Unique Christmas in New York City

On Monday the 7th of January 2019, the Great Feast of the Nativity according to the flesh of our Lord Jesus Christ, festal services were held in New York City’s Russian Orthodox Synodal Cathedral of the Sign.

Since the St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Pro-Cathedral burned down in 2016, New York City’s Serbian Orthodox community prayerfully celebrated Christ’s Nativity for a third time in the Russian Cathedral of the Sign. His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America and New York of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia (ROCOR) celebrated Hierarchical Divine Liturgy in the Cathedral. Concelebrating with the First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad were Their Graces, Bishop Irinej of Eastern America of the Serbian Orthodox Church and Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan, ROCOR Eastern American Diocesan vicar.

The Orthodox Christian denomination in Seychelles celebrated Christmas Day yesterday with a mass at the Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay hotel.

Many Orthodox Christians celebrate Christmas Day on or around January 7 annually to remember the birth of Jesus Christ as per the Julian calendar which pre-dates the Georgian calendar.

Old Calendar Nativity should be public holiday, says mayor of Estonian capital

In his congratulations to Orthodox Christians on January 6, Tallinn mayor Taavi Aas said he believes that January 7, Old Calendar Nativity, should be celebrated as a public holiday in Estonia, reports the site of the Tallinn city administration.

“January 7, or the first day of Nativity on the Orthodox calendar should be a day off and a public holiday because the Orthodox want to spend their feast day honorably,” the capital city mayor said.

Visit by Clergy of the Coptic Church to the Patriarchate of Alexandria

On 3rd January 2019, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa welcomed to the See of the Patriarchate a group of seventy-five clergy from the Coptic Church of Alexandria, headed by the Representative of the Coptic Patriarch in Alexandria, Bishop Pavlos, who were paying their very first visit to the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate.

The Blessing of ZOE Women’s Center

Saturday, December 8, 2018, was an auspicious day in the history of ZOE for Life!

On that day, His Eminence Metropolitan Savas of the Greek Orthodox Diocese of Pittsburgh, together with His Grace Irinej of the Serbian Orthodox Diocese of Eastern America, came together with local clergy to bless the newly created ZOE Women’s Center. 

117 people baptized in Congo

117 people from Pointe Noire and Dolisie received the Mystery of Holy Baptism at the end of December last year, the Metropolitanate of Congo-Brazzaville and Gabon informs.

On December 29, 2018, His Eminence Panteleimon, Metropolitan of Brazzaville and Gabon, arrived in Dolisie, where he celebrated the baptism of forty-five catechumens of all ages from the Parish Community “Saint Irene”.
