Patriarch Bartholomew, Greek Prime Minister in joint call for reopening of Halki seminary

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew and Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras on Wednesday expressed their shared hope that the Halki Orthodox seminary, which was shut down by Turkish authorities in 1971, will soon reopen.

Tsipras thanked Ecumenical Vartholomeos for the tour of the school (high school and seminary) where he went from the island of Imvros at the age of 15 to train for the priesthood, in.gr reports.

His Beatitude Hieronymos II born Ioannis Liapis in Oinofyta, Boeotia, in 1938, is a graduate of the Faculty of Philosophy and of the Faculty of Theology of the University of Athens and holds degrees in Archaeology, Byzantine Studies and Theology.

Appointment of new Director of the Private Patriarchal Office iN Alexandria

On 2 nd February 20919, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa officiated during Orthros and the Divine Liturgy at the Holy Patriarchal Monastery of St Savvas in Alexandria, for the Feast of the Meeting of the Lord.

Before the dismissal of the Divine Eucharist, the Alexandrian Primate performed the consecration of the Very Reverend Archimandrite Nikodemus Totkas, a seconded member of the clergy of the Holy Metropolis of Dimitriados and Almyrou, making him Director of the Private Patriarchal Office, awarding him the Patriarchal Certificate of Appointment, welcoming him to the Patriarchal Court and wishing him a good and productive ministry at the See of the Patriarchate.

Construction for Sümela Monastery cable car project to start in March

Construction works for a cable car planned to be built in the area where the historic Sümela Monastery in Turkey’s Black Sea province of Trabzon’s Maçka district is will start in March, authorities have announced.

Companies will tender for the project on Feb. 19, Trabzon Mayor Orhan Fevzi Gümrükçüoğlu has said.
