First Orthodox church in Bonn, Germany opens

The opening of the first Orthodox church in the history of the western Germany city of Bonn was held yesterday. The festive event was attended by several hundred people, reports Zvezda.

The opening of the new Russian Orthodox Church dedicated to the holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Empress Helen was known not just in Bonn, but throughout western Germany as a whole. Statistics show that more and more ethnic Germans have been converting to Orthodoxy in recent years.

Patriarch Kirill to bring relics of Saint Seraphim to Romania

About 100 Orthodox Christians gathered outside the Aristotelian Theater in Thessaloniki last night in protest of a staging of the play “The Hour of the Devil,” which depicts a discussion between a young woman and a personable devil, reports The Associated Press. According to Newsflare, the show, an adaptation of a story by Portuguese author Fernando Pessoa, glorifies and depicts the Devil as Christ’s brother, and mocks the Holy Cross, the Lord’s Prayer, and the Theotokos.

Thousands of Orthodox faithful in the northeastern city of Sumy, Ukraine held a procession on the feast of the Holy Protection of the Mother of God, despite that the executive committee of the city council had formally banned the procession, and the holding of the Divine Liturgy on the place of the destroyed Church of the Holy Protection, reports the Education-Information Department of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
