Chapel consecrated on site of 2018 mall fire in Kemerovo, Russia

On March 25, a fire broke out at the Winter Cherry shopping center in Kemerovo, Russia, that tragically left more than 60 day dead, including more than 40 children. A day of mourning was declared in Russia, and condolences poured in from the fraternal Orthodox Churches around the world.

First Romanian Orthodox Church in Norway consecrated

A 100-year-old building in the city of Haugesund in southwestern Norway was given new life on Sunday, as it was consecrated as a parish church of the Romanian Orthodox Church.

The new church, the first Romanian Orthodox parish in Norway, is dedicated to the “O All-Hymned Mother” Icon of the Theotokos, as well as Sts. Macarius the Great and Macarius of Alexandria, reports Doxologia.

23 September: International Day of Sign Languages

International Day of Sign Languages (IDSL) is celebrated annually across the world on 23 September every year.

According to the World Federation of the Deaf, there are approximately 72 million deaf people worldwide. More than 80% of them live in developing countries. Collectively, they use more than 300 different sign languages.

The feast of the nativity of Theotokos at the Patriarchate of Jerusalem

On Saturday, September 21, 2019, the Patriarchate celebrated the feast of the Nativity of Theotokos at the monastic Church of Saints Constantine and Helen.

On this feast the Church commemorates the fast that Mary was given by God to her parents Joachim and Anna, who were childless but pious, and kept entreating God to give them a child.

Court returns citizenship to Ukrainian bishop who was suddenly deported under Poroshenko

On February 5, His Grace Bishop Gideon of Makarov briefed a group of U.S. Congressmen on the facts of the discrimination that the canonical Ukrainian Church faced at the hands of the Ukrainian state under President Petro Poroshenko. He also spoke about how representatives of the schismatic “Orthodox Church of Ukraine” flagrantly violate international law and the Ukrainian constitution and about the violent activities of Ukraine’s various radical organizations.

Albanian Orthodox Church supports the earthquake victims

An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter Scale struck Albania. Many houses were damaged in Tirana and the port town of Durres. The country’s Orthodox Church supports the earthquake victims.
