Easter Monday at the Patriarchate

Easter Monday, April 7/20, 2020, was celebrated as the Feast of Easter, according to the tradition at the Patriarchal and Monastic Church of Saints Constantine and Helen, with Easter Matins, the Easter Canon of St. John Damascene, and the Divine Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom, with the lead in participation of H.H.B. our Father and Patriarch of Jerusalem Theophilos, and the co-prayer of the Hagiotaphite Fathers who live in the Central Monastery, along with the Consul General of Greece in Jerusalem Mr. Christos Sophianopoulos and without any nuns or local faithful Christians, due to the ongoing safety precautions regarding gatherings.

His Grace Irinej, Bishop of Backa: Even in the circumstances in which we are celebrating it this year, Easter is for us a source of eternal joy and gratitude to the Lord. All potential viruses, infections and epidemics are a menace, but the greatest menaces are spiritual epidemics of evil.

On Sunday 6/19 April 2020, the feast-day of Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ, His Grace Bishop Irinej of Backa and Novi Sad officiated Paschal Matins and presided over  the archhierarchal Liturgy at the Cathedarl Church of the Holy Great-Martyr George in Novi Sad. He was concelebrated by His Grace Isahije, Bishop of Mohacs, and presbyters and deacons of the Cathedral.

His Holiness Irineј, Serbian Patriarch served the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy in the crypt of the Saint Sava Cathedral on Vracar  at midnight on Easter, 19 April 2020.

Easter message of the President of the Republic of Serbia

The President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic expresses his best wishes for Easter to His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Irinej, clergy, monastics and all the faithful of the Serbian Orthodox Church.

I express my heartfelt best wishes for Easter to all the citizens of Serbia who celebrate Resurrection of Jesus Christ, wishing them to celebrate this greatest Christian feast-day in good hope and peace. During this period of the general affliction that has befallen the entire world, when people of all faiths and nations are brought through this terrible ordeal, we are celebrating our great feast with the hope that our prayers for the health, peace, well-being and common good of all mankind will find their way and be heard.

Patriarchal Liturgy in Cathedral Church in Belgrade

His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch celebrated  the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy at Cathedral church in Belgrade on 16 April 2020, on Holy and Great Thursday.

Father Gojko Perovic: It does not help even if we officiate without lay people

“Arresting of His Eminence Archbishop of Cetinje and Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral Amfilohije for informative questioning must be condemned without any exception”,  said protopresbyter Gojko Perovic, principal of the Orthodox Seminary of St Peter of Cetinje in his speech on radio “Svetigora”.

Father Gojko says that it is not clear what are the criteria of dealing of the Police of Montenegro and whether there are any criteria.
