His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch received in separate meetings Mr. Majid Fahim Pour, the ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran, and Mr. Michael Kirby, the ambassador of the United States of America, at the Serbian Patriarchate on 21 January 2016. 

The Iranian ambassador was accompanied by the first adviser Mr. Nasser Ehsani Farid and interpreter Mr. Mohammad-Reza Mottaghi. The U.S. ambassador was accompanied by political secretary Mr. Kevin Furey and Mrs. Milenka Ciric, interpreter.  

Memorial rite at the grave of Serdar Janko Vukotic

On the occasion of the centenary of the Battle of Mojkovac (1916-2015), which had been  previously marked by two magnificent spiritual academies in Mojkovac and Belgrade, the memorial rite (panichida) was served on the grave of the famous General Janko Vukotic at the New cemetery in Belgrade on 18 January.

His Eminence Metropolitan Amfilohije of Montenegro and the Littoral and His Grace Bishop Joanikije of Budimlje-Niksic served the memorial rite.

On Wednesday, January 20th, 2015 His Grace Bishop Irinej of Backa celebrated his Patron Saint-day by officiating the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy at the Cathedral church in Novi Sad. 

His Grace was concelebrated by Their Graces Bishops Pahomije of Vranje, David of Krusevac, Andrej of Austria-Switzerland and Jeronim of Jegar, as well as Archimandrites Prokopije Tadzar, Isihije Rogic, hieromonk Jelisej Troicki Vyjovic, protopresbyters-staurophors Dusan Kolundzic and Vladimir Vukasinovic, brotherhood of the Cathedral church and deacons of Novi Sad. Retired Bishop Vasilije of Zvornik-Tuzla attended the Holy Liturgy.

His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch, celebrated the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy at the Cathedral church in Belgrade on the Feast of the Cross, 18 January 2016.

The Liturgy was attended by His Eminence Metropolitan Amfilohije of Montenegro and the Littoral and Bishop Joanikije of Budimlje-Niksic. The clergy of the Cathedral church concelebrated to the Patriarch. The First Belgrade's Singing Society sang responses.

With the Archpastoral Blessings and the presence of His Grace Bishop Dr.Mitrophan, the Seventh Annual Diocesan Winter Retreat of the Eastern American Diocese was held December 28-30, 2015. The retreat was held at St. Archangel Michael Serbian Orthodox Church, Akron, Ohio.

Mayor of Chicago Proclaims Saint Sava Academy Day

The Honorable Rahm Emanuel, Mayor of Chicago, has officially proclaimed January 27th, the feast day of the revered Serbian patron saint of education and culture, as Saint Sava Academy Day in Chicago in recognition of the school’s work and for its contributions to the community.

The Mayor’s proclamation also noted that Saint Sava Academy is “the only full-time elementary school in Chicago offering dual language education in both Serbian and Russian languages,” “offers a safe community where students are able to express their culture and religious beliefs,” and “sustains an Orthodox faith-based education that provides students a strong spiritual compass both inside and outside the classroom.”
