St. George the Great Martyr Patron Saint Day Celebration in Schererville, Indiana

On the Sunday of the Myrrhbearers, April 29, 2012, St. George the Great and Victorious Martyr Serbian Orthodox Church in Schererville, Indiana celebrated its Patron Saint Day – Krsna Slava. Divine Liturgy was celebrated by Prota Dobrivoje Milunovic, and the responses were beautifully sung by the Bishop Stefan Lastavica Choir and our St. George Children’s Choir. Kumovi for this year’s celebration were Mr. and Mrs. Milan and Melinda Radjenovich, our longtime active and honorable members. Having just celebrated the “feast of feasts”, the Resurrection of Christ, the holy house was packed on the Myrrhbearing Sunday with our faithful members and parishioners.

His Holiness Irinej,  Serbian Patriarch with the concelebration of Their Graces Bishops Vasilije of Srem and Atanasije of Hvosno consecrated on May 3, 2012 a land for a new church devoted to St. Athanasius the Great in Zemun's suburb of Blue Horizons.

Patriarch Irinej on Myrrh-bearing Women

His Holiness Irinej served on Sunday, the feast day devoted to Myrrh-bearing Women, the Divine Liturgy in the church of the Protection of  Most Holy Theotokos in Belgrade. He was concelebrated by the brotherhood of the church with chanting of the choir. After the communion, in front of the great number of believers, His Holiness held a sermon.

Before the beginning of the regular year's session of the Plenary of the Patriarchate Steering Committee of the Serbian Orthodox Church on May 3, 2012 His Grace Bishop Jovan of Sumadija served the Invocation of the Holy Spirit in the Patriarchate Chapel of St. Symeon the Myrrh-Gushing, in the presence of His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch, Bishop Joanikije of Budimlje-Niksic and the members of the Plenary.

His Holiness Irinej received on May 2, 2012 in an official visit the delegation from Azerbaijan: Elcin Efendiyev, deputy Prime Minister of Azerbaijan; Archbishop Aleksandar Bakinski from the Russian Orthodox Church; Shejkulislam Allahshyukur Pashazde, President of Administration of Caucasian Muslims; Salaman Musayev, the first deputy President of the Administration of Caucasian Muslims; Mugedes Payizov, head of the Department of the foreign affairs of the ACM; Tural Edendiyev, President of the International Fund; Anar Ajamov, first secretary of the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Belgrade, as well as Katarina Panic, their translator.

On Sunday, April 29, 2012 the Church Community “Holy Trinity” from Yallourn celebrated a great and significant jubilee. This church, founded sixty years ago, is situated in the heart of the region of Gippsland, which is also known among our people as “Australian Sumadija”.
