His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch, during his canonical visit to the Diocese of Austria-Switzerland, consecrated a new church dedicated to Sts. Cyril and Methodius in Berne, and had an opportunity to visit several Church and state representatives, on 3rd September 2018.

At the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia, His Holiness Irinej was received by Dr. Snezana Jankovic, Ambassador of the Republic of Serbian to Switzerland, who informed the Patriarch on the status of the Serbian community in this country, about activities of the Embassy in preserving national and cultural identity, which is evident in organizing a Serbian Sunday school for children and very frequent cultural manifestations. The Serbian Patriarch thanked Mrs. Jankovic for all that the Embassy of the Republic of Serbia had been doing while supporting mission of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Switzerland  and the position of the Serbian people.

Art knows no boundaries and is often said that it connects people far and near.  This statement was very much proven to be true in our parish here in Atlanta. On the feast day of the Holy Transfiguration on August 19, 2018,  Sts. Peter and Paul organized our first international art exhibit. The art exhibit that we called “Touch” or in Serbian language “Dodir” we attempted to touch (dotaknemo) our homeland thru the art and bring it closer to our home here in the States. We have showcased 40 art pieces, some were mosaics, water paintings, and some beautiful icons.  In this exhibit we had professional artists from Serbian donate their art to us as well as our own local parishioners who eagerly jumped in and showcased their talent.  All the proceeds were donated towards our Sunday school.  It was a great joy and success to be to bring together artists from two continents and allow them to “touch” us with their talent.

The brightness of the Transfiguration of the Lord, illuminating all the universe, was shining on the parish of St. Sava in San Gabriel, California, where a great number of parishioners gathered to celebrate the great feast of the Lord through the Eucharistic assembly, under the leadership of His Grace and Father, Bishop Maxim.

On this sunny morning in front of the church the parishioners with their parish priest Father Predrag Bojović greeted Bishop Maksim, who, blessed the gathered faithful people with the rapture of the tropars of the holy feast. The church with hearts filled with prayer was ready to bring the Eucharistic Gift to the Transfigured Lord by the hands of their bishop. In the liturgical assembly, God showed the pleasant joy of the Eucharistic union through which we walk safely toward salvation and eternal life in the light of our Creator and Savior. Bishop Maxim was assisted by Father Predrag Bojović, diocesan Deacon Vladan Radovanovic and parish Deacon Jovan Katanic. The Holy Liturgy was enchanted by the pleasant and gentle chanting of the choir of the Church of St. Sava. The complete joy of unity was filled with the communion of many children and people of God. This fulfilled the words of Christ, which established the Holy Liturgy.

On Sunday, August 19, 2018, the Great Feast of Transfiguration, His Grace Irinej, Bishop of Eastern America, blessed the newly erected bust of Nadezda Petrovic, famous Serbian painter and philanthropist of the 20th century, in the Serbian Cultural Garden in Cleveland, Ohio.

After the Service of Blessing, Bishop Irinej reminded everyone of certain details from the biography of this remarkable woman. Nadezda was a great artist, someone who advanced new trends in Serbian art, but other than that, she was a woman filled with love towards others. She eventually died serving others as a nurse in World War I. Her paintings are not her only legacy - she was also the founder of the Circle of Serbian Sisters.
