First Belgrade Choral Society in Himmelsthür

With the blessing of His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch, and under the patronage of His Grace Bishop Sergije of Frankfurt and All Germany, the solemn concert of the First Belgrade Choral Society was held in the monastery of the Dormition of The Most Holy Mother of God in Himmelsthür.

The Town of Zababdeh

To the north of the West Bank and 15 km to the south-east of the City of Jenin, lies the town of Zababdeh or al-Zababida. The history of this small town dates back to no longer than two centuries. The first people who inhabited this land had fled their countries due to the oppression they suffered at that time.

The city of Tubas

Tubas is a Palestinian city a few kilometers to the west of the Jordan River. Its history dates back to the Canaanite era, that`s when it was originally named ‘Tuba Syoys’ which translates ‘shining star’. Tubas is also mentioned in the Book of Judges (Chapter 9) in the Old Testament under the name ‘Thebez’, when the ruler of Shechem at that time King ‘Abimelech‘ fled from Shechem after destroying it and killed its citizens.

The Cyrillic Day in Atlanta

This event was in honor of the Feast of St. Cyril and Methodius, the two holy brothers who were Byzantine Christian theologians and Christian missionaries to the Slavic people. The Cyrillic Day was organized for the first time on May 21, 2017, here in Atlanta. It took place in the central library for Gwinnett County in Lilburn (the same city where we are building our Serbian church).

Art available for sale at St. Mark Monastery Slava

On Monday, May 8th, on the day of their patronal feast, St. Mark Monastery will host the art of Dragana Crnjak, Associate Professor at Youngstown State University. The collection was inspired by her travels to the medieval monasteries of Serbia during her 2015 sabattical.  Speaking of her motivation, she recounts:

-From Serbia, Montenegro and Bosnia and Hercegovina, the richness and beauty of our Orthodox faith fully imbedded in every aspect of the monasteries was inspiring and moving.  I was drawn to the quiet dynamics of the monastery interiors, the physical yet impalpable qualities of the space and time with which they mysteriously pulsate.  The dichotomies between the visible and invisible, present and history in the spaces stimulated this body of work. I tried to develop the drawings from a single perspective - that of experience of contemplating and perceiving the elusive qualities of the church interiors.

Translation of the relics of St. Nicholas (Velimirovich)

On Wednesday May 3rd (April 20th) we commemorate Translation of the relics (1991) of St. Nicholas (Velimirovich) of Ochrid and Zhicha (1956) from America to Serbia.

Before us is a book about a theologian, minister, missionary, writer, poet, apostle, saint, and a man of dialogue: this book is about St. Nikolai Velimirovic, Bishop of Ohrid and Zhicha (1880 - 1956), who along with his many other attributes is regarded, with good reason, as an Enlightener of the Americas,  The collected texts provide an extensive over view of his life, present important testimonies about his personality, and offer essential insights into his theology. The authors penetrate the depths of his thought with remarkable precision and also elucidate his actionsTranslation of the relics (1991) of St. Nicholas (Velimirovich) of Ochrid and Zhicha (1956) from America to Serbia.
