Slava celebration at St. Archangel Michael Serbian Orthodox Church in Akron

For some years now the annual Slava celebration at St. Archangel Michael Serbian Orthodox Church in Akron, Ohio has been known to be a joyous weekend for parishioners and their guests. It was the parish priest, Protonamesnik Dragomir Tuba, who had decided eleven years ago to bring new life to this parish celebration, changing it from a simple one-day celebration into a two-day event which now begins on Saturday evening and brings visiting guests to the annual Folklore Festival. It has become a much anticipated tradition among Akron Serbs, one that continued this year with one of the largest festivals to date, including a total of nine folklore groups.

Consecration of church of Synaxis of the Holy Apostles in Apatin

Bishop IrineyOn Sunday, November 23, 2008 one of the most beautiful and the greatest buildings of church architecture in Serbia, a church of Synaxis of the Holy Apostles ,was consecrated. Prayerful gathering , attended by lots of believers, began with all-night vigil service, after which His Grace Bishop Irinej of Backa along with Their Graces Bishop Hrizostom of Zicha, Bishop Pahomije of Vranje, Bishop Jovan of Shumadija introduced holy relics into the church and put them in front of a main icon of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Visit of His Grace Bishop Irinej to St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church in Steelton

SteeltonOn Tuesday, November 25, 2008, Fr. Srboljub Jockovich and the stewards of the St. Nicholas Serbian Orthodox Church of Steelton/Oberlin, Pennsylvania, with the blessings of His Grace Bishop Mitrophan of Eastern America, were pleased and blessed to welcome His Grace Irinej, Serbian Orthodox Bishop of Australia and New Zealand, to evening vespers. Nearly 75 people were present to greet His Grace on his first visit to St. Nicholas Church since his elevation to bishop.

Bishop Maxim visits Honolulu

His Grace Bishop Maxim celebrated the Holy Liturgy at the St. Lazar Serbian Orthodox Parish on Saturday, November 1th, 2008 in Honolulu, Hawaii, as he did this year in July. The Liturgy was served at the Most Holy Theotokos of Iviron (ROCOR) with the assistence of Fr Blasko Paraklis. During the past year the Holy Liturgy was served in Honolulu four times and the parish was blessed with several Baptisms. After the Divine Liturgy, there was a small banquet.

Commemoration of the 2.000th Anniversary of the Birth of St. Paul

2000 St.PaulAlhambra, CA - On Tuesday, November 28th, His Grace, Bishop Maxim and the St. Steven's Serbian Orthodox Cathedral of the Western American Diocese hosted this very special Pan-Orthodox Gathering in Commemoration of the 2,000th Anniversary of the Birth of St. Paul.

The days events began with the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy at 10am. The hierarchs, clergy and faithful from around the South California area attended and participated in this special event. We were honored to have as the Homilist and Guest Speaker the Very Rev. Fr. Paul Nadim Tarazi, ThD.

Serbian church in Troy celebrates Krsna Slava

SlavaThe St. Petka Serbian Orthodox Church in Troy, Michigan, celebrated their Church Slava on Sunday, October 26, 2008. Fr. Kristijan Petrovich, parish priest, celebrated the Divine Liturgy. Afterwards he cut the Slava Kolach with this year's kumovi Zlatko and Ljiljana Velkovski. On the following day, on the feastday of the Holy and Venerable Mother Paraskeva, Fr. Kristijan was joined at the Divine Liturgy by Fr. Roman Star, dean of the Midwest for the Moscow Patriarchate and parish priest at St. Innocent Russian Orthodox Church in Redford, Michigan. Also serving was Deacon Ivan Feloniuk, deacon at St. Vladimir Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia.
