45 years of episcopal consecration of His Holiness Patriarch Irinej

His Holiness Patriarch Irinej (Gavrilovic) of Serbia was born in the village of Vidova, near Cacak in 1930 by his father Zdravko and mother Milijana.

When he was baptized he was named Miroslav. He finished the elementary school in his village, and then in Cacak he completed the high school. After the end of the high school he enrolled and completed a seminary in Prizren, and then he finished the Faculty of Orthodox Theology in Belgrade. Upon graduation, he went into the army. Following his return from the army he was soon appointed a professor of the Prizren seminary. Before taking the office of the professor in October  1959, at the Rakovica monastery he was tonsured by His Holiness Patriarch German, gaining the monastic name of Irinej.

On the feast day of the holy and unmercenary physicians Cosmas and Damian, on the second day of the Church Assembly-Sabor, a most majestic Holy Hierarchical Liturgy was served in honor of these Saints, in honor of our St. Mardarije of Libertyville and all America and in prayerful commemoration of the 800th anniversary of the autocephaly of the Serbian Orthodox Church, to the glory of the Triune God.

The 22nd Quinquennial Church Assembly (Sabor) of the Serbian Orthodox Dioceses in the United States of America began on Saturday, July 14, 2019 at the Serbian Orthodox Monastery of the Protection of the Mother of God "New Gracanica," in Third Lake, Illinois.

On the feast day of Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch officiated the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy in the church dedicated to these saints in Topcider.

The Patriarch was concelebrated by protopresbyter-staurophor Petar Sailovic and Djordje Trajkovic, protopresbyter Branislav Jelic, presbyters Arsenije Arsenijevic and Vukasin Milicevic, as well as deacons Aleksandar Sekulic and Nenad Idrizovic, in the prayerful presence of dean of the church presbyter Vladimir Markovic.

The Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church expresses its deep concern at the deterioration of the situation with the dioceses of the Serbian Patriarchate on the territory of Montenegro, where the unity of Orthodoxy has suffered for many years from the schismatic activity of the so-called “Montenegrin Orthodox Church.”

The Day of family, love and fidelity began to be marked five centuries ago in an ancient Russian town of Murom; officially as the Russian holiday was established ten years ago and was solemnly celebrated in cities throughout Russia.
