Professor Dr. Predrag Ristic reposed in the Lord

Renowned Serbian architect and professor at the Academy of the Serbian Orthodox Church for Fine Arts and Conservation Predrag Pedja Ristic died at the age of 89.
Predrag Ristic was born in Belgrade on January 17, 1931. He completed elementary German-Serbian school in 1941, and King Alexander I High School in 1949. He graduated in 1956 from the Faculty of Architecture in Belgrade with a grade of 10 with a project of the Cathedral Church and his own theory of acoustics based on the mathematical theory of assemblies. He received his PhD with the highest possible grade from the University of Graz, Austria, in 1980 with the thesis "Reconstructions of the Prehistoric Architecture of Lepenski vir". He passed the state exam in 1979. He was a member of ULUPUDS (Association of Artists of Fine Arts), and a lecturer at numerous academies in Europe. He was professor at the Serbian Orthodox Church's Academy for Fine Arts and Conservation since its inception.
Ancient Serbian monastery at Leštani will be restored

On the feast-day of Saint Stephen Despot of Serbian and Venerable Eugenia (Lazarevic), August 1, 2019, the Holy Liturgy was celebrated by Revd. Priest Rajko Rajić from Zaklopača with concelebration of Archimandrite Joaniki (Đukić), Abbot, in the chapel of the old monastery of Saint George at Leštani, near Belgrade.
After the Liturgy, the patron saint loaf was consecrated and broken at the site of the former 15th century monastery complex. Archimandrite Joanikije recalled the past of this medieval Serbian sanctuary and expressed a desire that this annual celebration of Saint Stefan Despot of Serbia in the restored monastery at Leštani would become a traditional gathering of faithful people in that holy place.
New abbot elected for St. John’s Monastery in Essex

The Monastery of St. John the Baptist in Tolleshunt Knights, near Essex, England is the oldest Orthodox monastic community in the country.
It was founded in 1958 by Elder Sophrony (Sakharov), the spiritual child of St. Silouan the Athonite who is himself venerated throughout the Orthodox world. Elder Sophrony served as the monastery’s abbot until his holy repose in 1993. The abbatial post was then taken up by Archimandrite Kyrillos, who served in that capacity until earlier this year, when he retired due to the weakness of his age. He has not been able to serve the Liturgy for more than a year now, though he is now working to instruct the new abbot.
Multi-day cross processions underway in Bulgaria and Romania

Cross processions, when the faithful gather in prayer, bearing icons and banners, are an especially beloved form of worship among Orthodox Christians, and the summer months are especially conducive to the extended cross processions that are especially beloved in Eastern Europe.
Hundreds of thousands gathered in processions in Kiev and throughout Ukraine, Belarus, and Russia to celebrate the Baptism of Rus’ on July 28. While the procession in Kiev is perhaps the most well-known, other processions are also underway in Bulgaria and Romania, among other places.
Remembrance Day of the Victims and Exiles of the Serbs in the Operation “Oluja” (Storm)

The central state event to commemorate the Remembrance Day of All Victims and Exiles of the Serbs in the Croatian armed operation "Storm" was held on August 4, 2019 in the Krusedol Monastery in Fruska Gora, Syrmium.
The parastasis rite for the repose of souls of the victims was served by His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Irinej in the prayerful presence of the President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vucic, President of the Republic Srpska Zeljka Cvijanovic, Prime Minister of Serbia Ana Brnabic, prime minister of the Republika Srpslka, ministers in both governments, high representatives of the governments and national assemblies of the Republic of Serbia and Republika Srpska, political representatives of the Serbs from Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Slovenia and Northern Macedonia, representatives of the Serbian Armed Forces, members of associations for promoting traditions of Serbian liberation wars and a huge number of citizens.
Patriarch Irinej celebrated at Beli Potok on St. Mary’s of Magdalene

His Holiness Patriarch Irinej celebrated in the church of St. Mary Magdalene in the village of Beli Potok, near Belgrade, at the foot of Mount Avala.
The church was built in 1883 thanks to voluntary donations and the work of the local faithful. The church was built in the style of the Raška school. The consecration of the church was performed by Metropolitan Michael in 1885. On the day when the Holy Church celebrates St. Mary Magdalene, a myrrh-bearer, on August 4, 2019, the clergy with the faithful people of Beli Potok welcomed His Holiness the Patriarch of Serbia.
