Nave Roof Completed!

The roof is finally on, and thank the Lord, our beloved St. Sava Cathedral in New York City is now safe.

The installation of the new steel roof structure has been achieved, over the full length of the building’s nave and, with that, this beautiful historic landmark has been stabilized at last, for the first time since the terrible fire that threatened to destroy it completely. What remains is to add a layer of wood over the steel and protect it with a special membrane until it can receive the final slate tiles in order to be fully restored.

Jubilee: Celebrating 800 Years of the Autocephaly of the Serbian Church (4th Day)

Following Matins and breakfast, the fourth and final day of the Church Assembly (Sabor) began with the agenda item named Constitutional Matters.

Bishop Irinej called upon attorney Louis-Ljubisa Milicich to present the 2019 edition of the three documents which govern our USA Dioceses: the Constitution, the General Rules and Regulations and the Uniform Rules and Regulations for Parishes and Church-School Congregations. A newly printed “white book” with these documents was distributed to the clergy and laity members of the Sabor. The versions of the governing documents contained in the “white book” have no material changes and merely incorporate all of the hierarchical decisions of the Holy Assembly of Bishops and the Episcopal Council rendered since the 2006 “yellow booklet” and the 2007 “brown booklet” were printed, including but not limited to the May 2018 decision of the Holy Assembly of Bishops to arrondate/limit the territorial scope of these documents to the United States of America.

Jubilee: Celebrating 800 Years of the Autocephaly of the Serbian Church (3rd Day)

His Grace Bishop Irinej served the Divine Liturgy on Monday, the feast day of the Deposition of the robe of the Most Holy Theotokos.

As His Grace noted at the conclusion of the liturgy, both Constantinople and Belgrade are cities dedicated to the Mother of God and therefore this feast day is uniquely shared by both. This feast has special significance for His Grace as he was consecrated bishop on this day thirteen years ago. As the bishop noted, joining him in celebration were Fr. Radomir Plavsic and Hieromonk Nektarije (Tesanovic), who also celebrate the anniversary of their ordination to the priesthood on this day. Concelebrating with the bishop were a number of clergy.
