Patronal feast day of the Municipality of Zemun

Celebration of the patronal feast day (slava) of the Municipality of Zemun, the Elevation of the Holy Cross, began with the Divine Liturgy celebrated by His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch at the church of Saint Nicholas of Myra 

The procession, led by Serbian Patriarch, went through streets of Zemun. About five hundred citizens attended the rite of cutting the slava cake and the solemn sermon of Serbian Patriarch.

May today's Feast be joyous and this day be blessed of the Elevation of the Holy Cross, which is called among the people Holy Cross Day. We have gathered today in our holy monastery at the Divine Liturgy, to pray to God and that through Holy Communion we demonstrate that we are the Body of Christ, that we do not belong only on earth. We have shown today that we are a part of the mystical Body of Christ precisely through Holy Communion, but also through our entire podvig, our prayer and efforts. The crown of our life is today's approaching the Holy Chalice.

With Communion we show that we cannot live alone or only for ourselves, but we live with Christ, for Christ and in Christ. All of that is confirmed at the Divine Liturgy when the priest says: "With the fear of God, in faith and love, draw near!", we humbly approach to commune of the Life-giving Rib of Christ. That's why, brothers and sisters, we come together in Church for the great Feasts, for every Liturgy is the Resurrection; at every Liturgy we celebrate the Resurrection of Christ as the central Feast of the Church.

The central event of this year's celebration of the jubilee of the Edict of Milan will take place on Sunday, 6 October at 9 a.m. in Nis, in front of the newly built church of Sts. Emperor Constantine and Empress Helen, where His Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew will celebrate the Hierarchal Divine Liturgy with the concelebration of present primates and representatives of Local Orthodox Churches. We invite all interested media companies to accredit their representatives who will contribute that from our Homeland would gone to the world the most beautiful image of our people, culture and spirituality.

Audience at the Serbian Patriarchate - 25 September 2013

His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch received His Excellency Konstantinos Ikonomidis, Ambassador of the Republic of Greece in our country at the Patriarchate on 25 September 2013 . His Grace Bishop Andrej of Remesiana, Vicar to the Serbian Patriarch, also attended the audience.

Diogenis Valavanidis receives Order of the Serbian Orthodox Church

Today, in the formal Hall of the Serbian Patriarchate, in the attendance of all members of the Holy Synod of Bishops, His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriach granted the high medal of our holy Church to Mr. Diogenis Valavanidis. 

On this occasion the Primate of our Church held a welcome speech in which he talked about celebrant's deed. Diogenis Valavanidis, Belgrader of the Greek origin, whose grandfather Avram Valavanidis as a surgeon of the Serbian army in the Balkan wars died from typhoid fever, today received the high medal of teh Serbian Orthodox Church - the Order of Saint Emperor Constantine.
