Patriarch Irinej meets with New Serbian Democracy from Montenegro

His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch received on March 24, 2011 a delegation of the party New Serbian Democracy from Montenegro. The delegation consisted of Mr. Andrija Mandic, the president of the party and Mr. Budimir Aleksic, the president of political council of the party. They informed Patriarch about situation in Montenegro before the forthcoming census of the population, planned for the period from April 1-15.

Celebration of the Greek national holiday in Belgrade

In the presence of His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch, His Grace Bishop Atanasije of Hvosno served today in the Patriarchal chapel of St. Simeon the Myrrh-streaming in Belgrade, thanksgiving on the occasion of the Greek national holiday - the Liberation day from Turkish slavery and the memory of the liberation uprisings from 1821. The thanksgiving was attended by His Excellency Dimostenes Stoidis, Ambassador of Greece, and representatives of the association of the Serbian-Greek friendship and members of the Greek community in Serbia.

Minister of faith and diaspora Srdjan Sreckovic in a first visit to Patriarch Irinej

Today, on March 24th 2011, His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch received the ministry of faith and diaspora Mr. Srdjan Sreckovic and state secretary Prof. Dr. Bogoljub Sijakovic. This is the first visit to His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch since the establishing the new Ministry by merging two departments. 

Prayerful remembrance of suffered in 1999 NATO bombing

His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch served today in St. Marko's church in Belgrade memorial service of innocently suffered and defenders of the Homeland during 1999 NATO bombing

Remembering all the suffered and fallen heroes in the defence of the Homeland, Patriarch Irinej said in his sermon: - We pray the Lord that his suffering and innocent bloodshed never happen again in the world.

Besides the pious people of the Serbian capital, the memorial service was attended by Alexander Konuzin, Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Belgrade.

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin awarded the Serbian Orthodox Church’s highest distinction

His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch handed Mr. Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin, Prime Minister of the Russian Federation last night in the St. Sava Memorial Cathedral on Vrachar the St. Sava Order of the First Degree.

This solemn act was attended by: Mr. Mirko Cvetkovic, President of the Government of the Republic of Serbia; His Grace Bishop Dr Irinej of Backa, member of the Holy Synod of Bishops of the SOC; Their Graces Bishops - Georgije of Canada, Atanasije of Hvosno and Porfirije of Jegar; Mr. Alexandar Konuzin, Ambassador of the Russian Federation; Crown Prince Alexander Karageorgevich; protopresbyter-staurophor Vitaly Tarasyev, head of the Podvorye of the Russian Orthodox Church in Belgrade; as well as Mr. Vojislav Milovanovic, proto builder of the St. Sava Cathedral on Vrachar.
