Bishop Maxim arrives in Australia

His Grace Bishop Maxim of Western America arrived yesterday in Sydney as a special guest. Bishop Maxim came to the fifth continent as a special guest of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Australia and New Zealand, actually as the lecturer at the forthcoming seminar of the Serbian priesthood in Sydney. 

Immediately upon arrival His Grace Bishop Maxim visited Sydney's Lazarica at which are the headquarters of the Diocese of Australia and New Zealand. The distinguished guest was welcomed by officers of the diocesan office and the brotherhood of Lazarica. The head of the church, protopresbyter-staurophor Miodrag Peric, served the doxology and the welcoming speech was held by His Grace Bishop Irinej. 

Patriarch of Constantinople receives delegation of the Russian Church

On 15 March 2011, His Holiness Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople received a delegation of the Russian Orthodox Church at his residence in the Phanar, a district of Istanbul. The delegation takes part in the Change Summit. Head of the delegation, Metropolitan Alexander of Astana and Kazakhstan, was accompanied by the deputy chairman of the Moscow Patriarchate's Department for External Church Relations hegumen Philipp (Riabykh), deputy chairman of the Church-Society Department Rev. Georgy Roschin, chairman of the Department for External Church Relations of the Metropolitan District in Kazakhstan hieromonk Seraphim (Petrovsky), and Metropolitan's assistant A. Mitroshin. Consul General of the Russian Embassy in Istanbul A. Yerkhov attended the meeting.

Sunday of Orthodoxy in Timişoara

Sunday of Orthodoxy, when the Orthodox Church celebrates the victory over the iconoclacy, in a particular way celebrated in Timişoara. His Grace Bishop Lukijan of Budim and Administrator of Timişoara served the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy with the concelebration of priests and deacons of the Cathedral church of Timişoara and protopresbyter-staurophor Radomir Popovic, dean of the Higher school - Academy of the Serbian Orthodox Church for arts and conservation. During the Holy Service of God the City choir from Timişoara was chanting. 

Report about situation in Japanese Orthodox Church after devastating quake and tsunami

With the blessing of His Grace Bishop Longin of Nova Gracanica-Midwestern America after several attempts we made the contact with the Orthodox Church in Japan. Metropolitan Danilo, the head of the Japanese Orthodox Church and the priesthood were very touched by the care of the Serbian Orthodox Church and our people towards Japanese brothers and sisters who sisters who undergo tough temptations.

Bartholomew I to Japan and the world: enough nuclear energy

A vibrant and heartfelt appeal to States to abandon the use of nuclear energy: this is the message sent by the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew to the Japanese people to express the solidarity of the Orthodox world. The message was sent on the first Sunday of Lent, also called the Sunday of Orthodoxy, on the anniversary of the restoration of the veneration of icons, which occurred in 843, as an expression of respect towards the people they represent.

Celebration of Sunday of Orthodoxy in Venice

On Sunday of Orthodoxy, March 13, 2011, His Eminence Metropolitan Gennadios of Italy and Malta of the Ecumenical Patriarchate of Constantinople served the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy in the church of St. George the Great Martyr in Venice. After the Liturgy there was a procession around the church in honor of the victory of the Orthodoxy over iconoclasts.
