On December 4/21, on a feast day of The Entry of the Most Holy Theotokos into the Temple , His Grace Bishop Milutin of Valjevo, with a blessing of His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch, went with brothers to the great Laura of the Serbian Orthodox Church, the monastery of Hilandar, in order to celebrate together with the abbot and the brotherhood of the monastery, the feast day of this Holy Family, and and in some miraculous way also the whole Mount Athos./photo gallery/

Celebration of Hanukkah in Jewish Community Belgrade

His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch visited last night the Belgrade synagogue Sukat Shalom and on that occasion he lit one of eight candles in a traditional ceremony regarding Hanukkah - the Jewish holiday of freedom and lights. Besides His Holiness, candles were also lit by President of Republic of Serbia Mr. Boris Tadic, His Grace Bishop Irinej of Backa, Mufti of Serbia Haji Efendi Jusufspahic, His Excellency Apostolic Nuncio Mr. Orlando Antonini, Minister of Faith Dr. Bogoljub Sijakovic, President of Jewish youth of Serbia Mr. Danijel Bogunovic and Honorary President of the Association of the Jewish Communities of Serbia Mr. Aca Singer.

Turkey complies with court order and returns confiscated orphanage to Ecumenical Patriarchate

Turkey complied with a European Court of Human Rights ruling on Monday and returned a 19th-century orphanage to the Ecumenical Patriarchate in Istanbul, the center of Orthodox Christianity around the world. The move is likely to appease the European Union which also calls on the Turkish government to reopen a Greek Orthodox seminary and return dozens of other properties such as school buildings and churches seized from Jewish and Christian foundations decades ago.
