Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomeos I wants Euro-body with Catholics, Protestants

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomeos I, a spiritual leader who represents Eastern Orthodox Christianity, has called for the creation of a churches' umbrella body in Europe to include Roman Catholics alongside Anglicans, Orthodox and Protestants.

"It is only by engaging in dialogue and by closely cooperating that the churches will prove capable of proclaiming the Gospel of Christ to the world in a convincing and effective way," the Orthodox leader said in a 19 July address in Lyon, France to mark the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Conference of European Churches.

Memorial service for Draza Mihajlovic

His Eminence Metropolitan Amfilohije of Montenegro and the Littoral served today at the Cathedral Church in Belgrade a memorial service for General Draza Mihajlovic, the commander of Yugoslav army in the Fatherland, suffered on this day in 1946.

Swiss Ambassador visits Serbian Patriarchate

On behalf od His Holiness Patriarch Pavle of Serbia, His Eminence Metropolitan Amfilohije of Montenegro and the Littoral has received today at the Patriarchate court in Belgrade His Excellency Ambassador of Switzerland Erwin Helmut with his wife.

Echoing the hope that God has for Europe

300 delegates representing churches from throughout Europe countries are gathering today in Lyon, France, for the 13th Assembly of the Conference of European Churches (CEC).

Of the 300 delegates, 41 are young people.  170 delegates are male, and 130 are female.  109 are lay people and 191 are ordained.  There are 25 delegates who are black or from a minority ethnic group, or who are representing a migrant church.

Ceremony at the French Embassy in Belgrade
