Archbishop Jovan of Ohrid participates in the international Science Conference in Veria, Greece

His Eminence Archbishop Jovan of Ohrid and Metropolitan of Skopje,asked by the Holy Synod of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church, participated in the XV International Science Conference Pavlia which is being held each year in Veria, in Greece, from June 25-28, 2009. This year a theme of the conference was: Family - Paul`s theology and
the contemporary insight.

The 16th Orthodox Inter-Parliamentary General Assembly

At the House of the National Assembly on June 24, 2009 the 16th Orthodox Inter-Parliamentary General Assembly was opened with a formal session. It is being held in Belgrade from June 24 – 28, 2009 and its host is the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia.

Assembly Chairman and the member of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Sergei Popov, who pointed out that this conference is a chance to be heard a voice of Orthodoxy and the voice of all Christians. Popov also announced that the General Assembly will consider a response to the world economic crisis from the point of view of Christianity, as well as focus on the status of the orthodox people in Kosovo and Metohija, stressing that the forthcoming celebration of the 620th annual of the Battle of Kosovo, on June 28th.

Delegation from Portugal at the Museum of the Serbian Orthodox Church

A high delegation of the Republic of Portugal visited on June 22, 2009 the Museum of the Serbian Orthodox Church. The President of the Portuguese parliament Jaime Gama and the ambassador of Portugal to Serbia Luis de Almeida Sampaio led a group of deputies of the Portuguese parliament, which showed a high interest for spiritual and cultural heritage preserved at the Museum.

New monograph about St Sava Cathedral

A new monograph about St Sava Cathedral on Vrachar has been published. The editor of this publication is Zoran Radovanov, the text was written by Dragomir Acovic, and speciality assistants were Vojislav Milovanovic and Maja Filipovic.

The photographs which enriched the text were taken from the Foto archive of the Monument Cathedral and also from photographers: Milinko Stefanovic, Radeta Prelic, Hadzi-Marko Vujichic and Branko Jovanovic. The Cover photograph is done by Marko Rupen.

The publisher of this great publication is Studio "Bechkerek", Novi Sad. This monograph is available in Serbian, English and Russian.

Saint Sava Serbian Orthodox Cathdral of Cleveland celebrates 100th anniversary

By the grace of God, on June 13th and 14th 2009, Saint Sava Serbian Orthodox Catheral of Cleveland, Ohio, celebrated its 100th anniversary. It was an exceptional honor for the Cleveland parish to have all four Bishops from the United States present at the celebration; His Eminence, Metropolitan of Libertyville and Chicago, Christopher, His Grace, Bishop of Eastern America Dr. Mitrophan, His Grace, Bishop of New Gracanica and Midwest America Longin, and His Grace Bishop of Western America Dr. Maxim.

The celebration began on Saturday, June 13th, with a vespers service. Present at the service were His Grace Bishop Dr. Mitrophan and the local clergy, V. Rev. Vasilije Sokolovic, retired priest from Saint Sava Cathedral, V. Rev. Steven Calos from the Greek Orthodox Church, Cleveland Heights, V. Rev. Rade Merick, from the Holy Resurrection Serbian Orthodox Church in Stubenville, Oh, Rev. Alex Pavicevich from the Serbian Orthodox Church in Lorain, Oh, V. Rev. Ilija Merzev from the Russian Orthodox Church in Cleveland, Oh, Fr. Vladimir Demshuk from the Serbian Orthodox Church in Clierton, Pa, and Rev. Zivojin Jakovljevic, from Saint Sava Serbian Orthodox Cathedral in Cleveland, Oh. Choir Negos did the responses under the direction of Milan Damljanovic.
