This international ecological symposium organized by the Ecumenical Patriarchate and the Regional Prefecture of Attiki will convene theologians and scientists, political and business leaders, as well as activists and journalists from all over the world. Participants will explore the pressing environmental problems of the region and its islands, examining the connections between ecology and economy, particularly in the context of pressing social and environmental challenges of our time.

His Beatitude Chrysostomos II celebrates his name day

On 13 November 2017 His Beatitude Chrysostomos II, Archbishop of Nova Justiniana and All Cyprus, celebrates his name day.

He was born in Tala village, Paphos. At the age of 10 he lost his father and two years later, after finishing his elementary education, he joined the monastery of Ayios Neophytos in Paphos. He also attended Paphos Gymnasium, graduating in 1963. On 3 November, of the same year, he was ordained deacon by the Bishop of Trimithounda, Georgios.

The Greek Orthodox Archdiocesan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity hosted the Annual Prayer Service for the United Nations Community presided by His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America and sponsored together by the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the United States and the Standing Conference of Oriental Orthodox Churches.

Their Eminences Archbishop Demetrios and His Eminence Archbishop Khajag Barsamian of the Armenian Church of America, chairmen of the respective Conferences addressed the prayerful assemblage. His Grace Bishop Irinej of Eastern America represented the Serbian Orthodox Church.

A conference was held yesterday in the Russian embassy in Japan dedicated to the great Russian missionary saints Innocent of Moscow and Nicholas of Japan. The international academic conference “Sts. Nicholas of Japan and Innocent of Moscow: The Culture of the Peoples of Russia, Japan, and America” is dedicated to the 220th anniversary of the birth of St. Innocent the metropolitan of Moscow and Kolomna, and apostle to Siberia and America, the spiritual mentor of the Equal-to-the-Apostles Nicholas of Japan.

The reliquary with a particle of the relics of St. Seraphim of Sarov brought to Romania last week by His Holiness Patriarch Kirill was transferred to the Russian Orthodox community at St. Nicholas-Tabacu Church in Bucharest on Thursday. Fr. Eugene Rogoti received the relics on behalf of the community at the patriarchal residence yesterday, reports the Basilica News Agency.

Faithful in Kolomiya, Ukraine pray outside church despite Uniate threats

Despite insults, threats, and even the use of physical force against them, the Orthodox faithful of the Holy Annunciation Church in Kolomiya, Ukraine, in the Transkarpatya region, are holding an ongoing prayer vigil outside the walls of their church, reports the Ivano-Frankivsk Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
