On Sunday 4th December 2016, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa officiated and preached the homily during Great Vespers at the celebrating Holy Patriarchal Church of St Savvas the Sanctified in Alexandria, together with His Eminence Narcissos Metropolitan of Accra, Patriarchal Vicar of Alexandria, Clergy of the Patriarchate, the Honourable Consul General of Greece in Alexandria Mr. Emmanuel Kakavelakis, the representative of the Hellenic Community, associations and Societies from the community. During the Patriarchal Vespers, a piece of the relics of the Venerable Savvas the Sanctified which are kept at the Holy Monastery, were placed for veneration.

All-terrain vehicle donated for mission work in Russian tundra

A floating, all-terrain “Trekol” vehicle is set to arrive in Russia’s Komi Republic by early 2017, reports the site of the Russian Orthodox Church.

The vehicle was given to His Holiness Patriarch Kirill on his seventieth birthday which was celebrated in November, and is being handed over to the Vorkuta diocese, located 1,000 miles northeast of Moscow, where it is needed for mission work in remote areas of the republic, especially among reindeer herding camps.

Between November 21 and 26 clergy of the Dioceses of Vinnitsa and Tulchin of the UOC-MP delivered seventeen metric tons of humanitarian aid to Donbass residents, reports the Vinnitsa Diocese’s official website.

Saint Alexander Nevsky Cathedral here was the site of the celebration of the 100th Anniversary of the Orthodox Church in America’s Archdiocese of Pittsburgh and Western Pennsylvania November 11-12, 2016.

Meeting of Orthodox Clergy Wives in Albania

Over fifty Presvyteras and Diakonissas came from the various Metropolises in Albania to participate in a meeting held in Shen Vlash at the Resurrection of Christ Theological School, November 4-6, 2016. At the invitation of His Beatitude Archbishop Anastasios, six Orthodox women from the OCMC (Orthodox Christian Mission Center), working with a team of Albanian women, reflected on the theme of “Christ, the living water.”

The goal of this meeting was to have time for prayer, fellowship, spiritual growth and to learn more about the roles of a presvytera and diakonissa in the Orthodox setting. The days were filled with small and large group sessions (with themes such as the sacraments, raising children, the liturgical year, etc), Bible Studies, crafts, social time and prayer. Lively discussions were held in some of the small groups which offered an intimate atmosphere.

Archbishop Anastasios Honored with the Title “Honorary Citizen” of Durresi

On the afternoon of November 16th, 2016, a ceremony to bestow the title “Honorary Citizen” was held on the premises of the Aleksander Moisiu Theater. The ceremony was organized by the Municipality of Durres to honor the heads of the four traditional religious communities of the country, respectively Mr. Haxhi Hafiz Sabri Koci (posthumously), Prof. Dr. Anastasios, Archbishop of Tirana, Durres and All Albania, Mr. Rrok Mirdita, Archbishop and Metropolitan of the Roman Catholics of Tirana and Durres (posthumously), and the Head Grandfather Mr. Haxhi Dede Reshat Bardhi (posthumously).
