Feast of Dormition of Theotokos at Patriarchate of JerusalemOn Friday, August 28, 2020, the Patriarchate of Jerusalem celebrated the Feast of the Dormition of the Mother of God. This Feast was celebrated at the Shrine of the Dormition in Gethsemane where the Tomb of Theotokos and Ever-Virgin Mary lies, which was built by St. Helen in AD 326 and from the Sovereigns Markianos and Poulcheria in AD 417.

Church of Greece: Disappointment and strong protest at conversion of Chora Church into a mosque

In an announcement issued today after its meeting, the Standing Holy Synod of the Church of Greece expressed disappointment and concern while protesting vehemently against the decision of the Turkish government to convert the Chora Church into a mosque and a place of prayer of the Islamic religion, “approaching a point of division and disintegration”.  As it has been the case for Hagia Sophia, the Church of Greece immediately appeal to the international community and engage in representations, requesting that the Chora Church should return to its previous status.

Ecumenical Patriarch: We were hurt by conversion of Hagia Sophia and Chora Church into mosques

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the historic Monastery of Panagia Faneromeni in Cyzicus. He referred, in his homily, to the recent conversion of Hagia Sophia and the Chora Church into mosques.  “We came to this holy place again this year. We came to the historic Monastery of Panagia Faneromeni in Cyzicus to celebrate in a liturgical gathering the Feast of the Dormition of the Mother of God. The Leavetaking of the Feast of the Dormition falls today and it reminds us that we must pay homage to this holy place that seems timeless,” he said.

Saint Dionysios was solemnly celebrated in Zakynthos

The three-day celebration for the Patron Saint of Zante, Saint Dionysios, began with strict measures. Due to COVID-19 restriction measures, only a few believers were able to attend religious events inside the church.  In the afternoon, the Metropolitan of Zakynthos went from the Holy Monastery of Strofades to the holy temple and immediately afterwards the Doxology and the procession of the relics of Saint Dionysios took place inside the church. Afterwards, Metropolitan Daniel of Axum from the Patriarchate of Alexandria presided over the Great Vespers service.

St. Joseph the Hesychast church consecrated in Tbilisi

On Wednesday, July 22, the first parish church in the world dedicated to the newly-glorified St. Joseph the Hesychast was consecrated in Tbilisi, Georgia. The church is located within the complex of the Church of the Exaltation of the Precious Cross in the Saburalo section of the Georgian capital. The Liturgy and consecration were celebrated by His Eminence Metropolitan Davit of Alaverdi and the parish rector Archpriest Theodore Gignadze, together with fellow members of the clergy, reports the Sermons by Archpriest Theodore Gignadze Facebook page.

Fr Antonios visited the Chongwe, where he taught the Parishioners the Orthodox Faith with love as Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ commanded, with the blessing of Archbishop Ioannis of Zambia.  The people welcome him with happiness as their spiritual father.
