On the joyous feast day of the Nativity of the Lord - Christmas, on 7 January 2020, His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch, officiated the Holy Hieararchal Liturgy in the Saint Sava Cathedral in Belgrade (phоto gallery).

The solemn Liturgy, besides lots of faithful people, was attended by envoy of the President of the Republic of Serbia Mr. Nikola Selakovic, Crown Prince Aleksandar Karadjordjevic and Princess Katherine, Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr. Ivica Dacic, Deputy Director of the Office for Cooperation with Churches and Religious Communities Mr. Marko Nikolic, Mayor of Belgrade Dr. Zoran Radojcic, Apostolic Nuntio in Belgrade Archbishop Luciano Suriani, Archbishop of Belgrade Mr. Stanislav Hocevar, members of the diplomatic corps and people from cultural and public life of the capital. 

The Christmas Epistle of His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch, and all hierarchs of the Serbian Orthodox Church was read by His Grace Bishop Stefan of Remesiana, who officiated the Holy Liturgy at midnight in the crypt of the Memoral Cathedral of Saint Sava.  His Holiness was concelebrated by the clergy of the Archbishopric of Belgrade-Karlovac.

12.000 people in the procession in Bijelo Polje, Montenegro

Archpriest  Milosav Jovanovic: the Gentiles rose to persecute the Church of Christ, to persecute Christ from Montenegro.

After an acathist officiated in the church of Sts Peter and Paul in Bijelo Polje, some 12.000 faithful went in a prayerful procession to the church of St. Nicholas at Nikoljac. This procession was joined by a group of faithful from Zaton having walked on foot some 15 km.

Bishop Joanikije of Budimlje-Niksic on the new Law in Montenegro “…Terrible injustice is being imposed against the Serbian Orthodox Church; we are experiencing an attack on Orthodoxy in Montenegro, designed, projected, but, as Christians, we have a duty to resist and to stand up against the injustice, that our people and their priests have done.

We remind this state, and the entire domestic and international public, of the basic truth that the state stands on the citizens in the same way as the Church stands on the believers. If, these days so many citizens of the Orthodox Church of Montenegro have expressed their disagreement with the injustice that is being done by passing the Law, and if there have been so many of our justified reactions, identified by going out to the streets, when everything has already been brought to absurdity, then everyone that is coming out and everyone who came out to the street testifies that the law is null and void and not enacted in accordance with the will of the majority Church in Montenegro," said the Bishop of Budimlje-Niksic. 

Communique of the Episcopal Council of the Serbian Orthodox Church In North, Central and South America

Concerning the latest developments in Montenegro, regarding the adoption of the draft Law on Freedom of Religion or Belief, and the Legal Status of Religious Communities, the Episcopal Council of the Serbian Orthodox Church in North, Central and South America forwards its support to the Orthodox Church in Montenegro, headed by its hierarchs.

The law by which representatives of the authorities in Montenegro intend to forcibly confiscate churches and monasteries and their properties from the Metropolitanate and Dioceses of the Serbian Orthodox Church violates the historic right of their owners, first and foremost the Orthodox Dioceses in Montenegro, to their centuries-old sanctuaries.

On Sunday December 15^th His Grace Bishop Maxim served Hierarchical Divine Liturgy at the Nativity of the Most Holy Theotokos in Irvine, Orange County.

Meeting between Serbian Patriarch and President of Serbia

His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch, received Mr. Aleksandar Vucic, the President of the Republic of Serbia at the Serbian Patriarchate in Belgrade on 31 December 2019.

The meeting was attended by His Grace Bishop Stefan of Remesiana, Mr. Ivica Dacic, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia; Mr. Nikola Selakovic, Secretary of the President of the Republic of Serbia and Mr. Dejan Nakic, personal secretary of Serbian Patriarch.
