Jubilees of His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch

The Serbian Orthodox Church is marking the great jubilees of His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch: the 60th Anniversary of monastic, 45th anniversary of diocesan and 10th anniversary of patriarchal service to God and the Serbian kin.

His Holiness Patriarch Irinej (Gavrilovic) of Serbia was born in the village of Vidova, near town of Cacak, Serbia, in 1930. His baptismal name is Miroslav. He finished elementary school in his village, and later on high school in Cacak. Thereupon he enrolled and completed Theological Seminary in Prizren, and then graduated at the Faculty of Orthodox Theology in Belgrade.

Very cold air temperature and strong wind that mercilessly blew on the coast of Chesapeake Bay near Annapolis, Maryland, did not deter nineteen courageous male and one fearless female parishioner of St. Luke Serbian Orthodox Church of Washington, D.C. to brave the weather on Epiphany 2020 and swim for the honorable Cross that was, after brief prayer, thrown into the icy ocean by the Rev. Dr. Vasilije Vranic.

Swimmers were wholeheartedly cheered by about thirty members of their families, friends and parishioners that were shuddering on a cold and windy weather in spite of being snuggled in warm clothing.

Many Orthodox Christians from diverse backgrounds, led by our Serbian community in Naples, Florida, gathered together for the Feast of the Nativity of Christ on January 6-7, 2020. Graciously, the St. Paul Orthodox Church, with the blessings of Bishop Nicholas of the Antiochian Archdiocese, hosted our faithful.

Theophany procession and swimming for the Precious Cross

His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch celebrated the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy in Saint Nicholas Church in Zemun on 19 January 2020, on the feast of Theophany.

The Patriarch was concelebrated by local clergy. The Holy Liturgy was attended by Crown Prince Aleksandar and Princess Katherine Karadjordjevic, Assistant Director of the Office for Cooperation with Churches and Religious Communities Dr Marko Nikolic, representatives of Municipality of Zemun, representatives of the Serbian Armed Forces, Gendarmerie, Fire Brigade, Police and lots of faithful people.

Feast of the Cross in the Cathedral church in Belgrade

His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch, officiated the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy in the Cathedral church of Saint Michael the Archangel in Belgrade on 18 January 2020, on the feast of the Cross.

The Patriarch was concelebrated by the local clergy.

Prayer of Supplication at the beginning of the New Year in front of Saint Sava Cathedral in Vracar

His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch served a prayer of supplication (moleben) and sent prayers for the salvation of the people in Montenegro, Kosovo and Metohija and all Serbian places on the plateau in front of the Memorial Cathedral of Saint Sava in Vracar on 13 January 2020 (phоto gallery).

The Patriarch was concelebrated by the clergy of the Archbishopric of Belgrade-Karlovac in the prayerful presence of His Grace Bishop Stefan of Remesiana, head of the Saint Sava Cathedral. After the prayer of supplication, at midnight, to the delight of the many faithful people of the capital, a traditional fireworks show was prepared.
