Serbian Patriarch made a pilgrimage to the Chilandar monastery in Mount Athos

His Holiness Serbian Patriarch arrived to the Chilandar Monastery where he on 3 December 2016 officiated the All- Night Vigil Service and in the morning the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy on the occasion of the patron feast-day of the monastery -  Entry of the Virgin Mary into the Temple.

The Patriarch arrived to the Holy Laura of the Chilandar Monastery escorted by His Grace Bishop Jovan of Sumadia, Serbian Minister of Education Mr. Mladen Sarcevic, Director of the Office for Cooperation with Churches and Religious Communities Dr. Mileta Radojevic, Chairman of the Hilandar Medical Society Dr. Radisav Scepanovic and former Minister of Justice Mr. Nikola Selakovic.

Vladika’s First Canonical Visit, Our New Parish Priest and the Extraordinary Assembly

By God’s mercy, last Sunday November 27, 2016, our newly enthroned Bishop, His Grace Bishop Mitrophan, paid his first canonical visit to our parish.

In the presence of many of our parishioners, His Grace co-celebrated the Hierarchal Holy Liturgy with our Fr. Vasilije Tomic, Fr. Milutin Veljko of St. Sava’s parish in Toronto, and with the newly arrived Fr. Vladimir Vranic of the Cathedral Church of St. Archangel Michael in Belgrade.

On November 26th and 27th, the faithful of St. Sava Jackson gathered to commemorate the founders of the parish and the Feast of St. Sebastian of Jackson and San Francisco.

The two-day event began with Great Vespers on Saturday evening.  At the invitation of His Grace Bishop Maxim, His Eminence Archbishop Benjamin (OCA, San Francisco) attended the service which was led by Fr. Stephen Tumbas.  Following vespers, the clergy with their wives and the bishops dined at the National Hotel.

Monastery of Holy Archangels in Kovilj was a place of a gathering of bishops, priests and monks, not only of the Serbian Orthodox Church but also from other local Orthodox Churches, relatives, friends, admirers of Bishop Jeronim of Jegar, as well as of the faithful people from all parts of Backa (photo gallery).

His Beatitude Archbishop of Ohrid and Metropolitan of Skopje Jovan officiated the Holy Funeral Liturgy with the concelebration of Metropolitans Kirill of Eritrea and Porfirije of Zagreb-Ljubljana and seventeen bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church.

Bishop Longin, other church officials break ground on new St. Sava cemetery

With prayer and a special blessing, clergy and church members broke ground Saturday on a new cemetery at St. Sava Serbian Orthodox Church in Merrillville, which will serve Orthodox Church members of all ethnic groups.

A solemn procession led by His Grace Bishop Longin and priests from several Orthodox parishes in Indiana and Illinois brought church members from St. Sava church building north to the site where the cemetery will be built.
