Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II of Antioch and All East (Syriac Orthodox Church), Archbishop of Centerbury Justin Welby, Lutheran Archbishop of Uppsala and all Sweden Antje Jackelén (Church of Sweden), Bishop Irinej of Backa and Metropolitan Porfirije of Zagreb-Ljubljana will be speakers at the General Assembly of the Conference of the European Churches to be held in Novi Sad from May 31 to June 6, 2018.

The first press conference relating to the forthcoming General Assembly of the Conference of the European Churches in Novi Sad was held in Novi Sad on May 21st. It was said that the event will be addressing the biblical theme “You shall be my witnesses”– exploring the Christian values of justice, witness and hospitality.

Feast of the Ascension Celebrated at the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin

On May 10, the Armenian Apostolic Holy Church celebrated the Feast of the Ascension of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Under the presidency of His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians; the feast is also designated as the Pilgrimage Day of Holy Etchmiadzin.

The International Day of Families provides an opportunity to promote awareness of issues relating to families and to increase knowledge of the social, economic and demographic processes affecting them.

Swedish City Allows 110 DB Muslim Prayer Calls

The Swedish town of Växjö has sparked a lot of controversy by granting the local Muslim Foundation permission to run prayer calls at a maximum volume of 110 decibels. By contrast, a local church had to confine itself to a small and "quiet" clock inside the building to be used for a similar purpose.

Delegation from Norway visits the Metropolitan of Thessaloniki Anthimos

A large delegation of Norwegians was received by the Metropolitan of Thessaloniki, His Eminence Mr. Anthimos, on the occasion of their educational tour and pilgrimage to Byzantine churches and other Christian monuments of the city of Thessaloniki. The delegation headed by Torstein Theodor Tollefsen, professor of Ancient and Byzantine philosophy at the University of Oslo, was consisted of emeriti professors, doctors, researchers, other philhellenes and friends of Orthodoxy from Norway, as well as members of the Norwegian Orthodox Parish of St. Nicholas in Oslo, which belongs to the Ecumenical Patriarchate, and the Parish of the Metropolitan Church of The Annunciation of the Mother of God in Oslo of the Metropolis of Sweden and All Scandinavia.

Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church celebrates the annual feast day of St. George

Today the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church celebrates the annual feast day of St. George. Today marks the martyrdom of this Saint. St. George is a very popular Saint in Ethiopia. He is one of patron saints of the country, as well as it’s military, and the Imperial family. His image was on the Emperor’s standard, on the front of the Emperor’s crown, and a mosaic mural of him decorated the front of Ethiopia’s parliament building until it was painted over during the rule of the Marxist Derg.
