The Mnemosynon for the soul of his eminence metropolitan Antonio Chedraoui

June 2017 - 10:35The Divine Liturgy with the mnemosynon was celebrated today at the patriarchal Monastery of Balamand for the soul of his Eminence metropolitan Antonio Chedraoui of Mexico, Venezuela, Central America and the Islands of the Caribbean Sea. The following Metropolitans and bishops were present: His Eminence Elias Kfoury (of Tyre, Saidon and Dependencies), His Eminence Ephrem Kyriakos (of Tripoli, Koura and Dependencies), His Grace Bishop Constantine Kayyal (of Zabadani) with a group of priests and deacons.
First complete Bible published in Uzbek language

June 2017 - 13:12The first complete Bible in the Uzbek language was presented in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, on June 1, 2017, at the Tashkent and Uzbekistan diocesan center of the Russian Orthodox Church. Translators worked on the project for 23 years, reports the Institute for Biblical Translation. A whole international team of professional translators from the Institute for Biblical Translation, the Summer Institute for Linguistics, and the United Bible Societies worked on the translation, with the support and active involvement of the Bible Society of Uzbekistan.
“That we now have a full Biblical text in the Uzbek language is a great joy—the joy that we can learn the Word of God. The Bible is the Book of Books. It is God’s revelation about how man should live on earth,” Metropolitan Vikenty of Tashkent and Uzbekistan said at the presentation of the new publication. In the bishop’s words, the newly-translated Bible “has great potential to penetrate into the heart and minds of many for people and harmony in Uzbekistan and in the whole world.”

The city of Tubas
12. June 2017 - 10:36Tubas is a Palestinian city a few kilometers to the west of the Jordan River. Its history dates back to the Canaanite era, that`s when it was originally named ‘Tuba Syoys’ which translates ‘shining star’. Tubas is also mentioned in the Book of Judges (Chapter 9) in the Old Testament under the name ‘Thebez’, when the ruler of Shechem at that time King ‘Abimelech‘ fled from Shechem after destroying it and killed its citizens.

June 2017 - 9:54The Orthodox Church has been taking an active and increasing interest in the person and works of Martin Luther lately, according to His All-Holiness Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew. The Constantinopolitan primate expressed this opinion during a speech at Germany's Tübingen University on May 30, the day after receiving an honorary doctorate for his work in promoting the Orthodox-Protestant dialogue, as part of the celebrations of the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation, reports the Catholic news agency The Tablet. The Patriarchate of Constantinople entered into a bilateral theological dialogue with the Evangelical Church of Germany in 1969.

11. June 2017 - 9:59On May 29, 2017, His All-Holiness travelled to Stuttgart, Germany, to visit the Evangelical Church in Germany, which is celebrating the 500-year anniversary since the Reformation. The Patriarch was invited by the Rt. Rev. Bishop Heinrich Bedford-Strohm to attend the celebrations.
