St. John's Day celebrated in Belgrade

The feast day of Sinaxis of Saint John the Baptist - St. John's Day was formally celebrated with the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy at the Cathedral Church in Belgrade. His Eminence Metropolitan Amfilohije of Montenegro and the Littoral, Locum tenens of the Patriarchate throne, served the  Hierarchal Liturgy with the concelebration of seven priests and five deacons.

Communique on the occasion of the upcoming Election Assembly

The upcoming Election Assembly of the Serbian Orthodox Church, scheduled for January 22, is one of the central themes of our media scene. The Holy Synod states with satisfaction that one part of media deals with that issue seriously and responsibly, but notices with deep regret that an approach of great deal of media reporters and commentators is sensationalist, biased and partial, so they often use disinformation and obscure gossip, usually from anonymous sources, neither respecting the spiritual authority of the Church nor its late head. Also they do not care for the feelings and the dignity of our people, expressed at the send-off and the funeral of Patriarch.

The Exaltation of the Holy Cross

Today, on January 18, 2010, on the fast day of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, His Grace Bishop Atanasije of Hvosno served the Royal hours and after that the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy at the Vavedenje Monastery in Belgrade.

At the end of the Liturgy Bishop performed the rite of Blessing of Waters.

Two centuries of St. Nicholas in Kotor

His Eminence Metropolitan Amfilohije of Montenegro and the Littoral and Archbishop of Cetinje , Locum tenens of the throne of the Serbian patriarchs, served on January 16, 2010 a Holy service of God at the church of St. Nicholas in Kotor, on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of its construction and the 100th anniversary of its restoration.

"Our thoughts and prayers are now with the people of Haiti," said Archbishop Demetrios who immediately issued an encyclical calling upon the faithful of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America to pray for the safety, health and well being of all the people of Haiti and in particular the Greek Orthodox faithful there.
