Over 100 Year Old Church To Become Site For Tourists

Friends of St. Michael's Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Gardenton, Manitoba want to draw tourists to southeastern Manitoba.

Board Member Wayne Arseny explains the first wave of Ukrainian immigrants that settled in Manitoba in 1896 built St. Michael's Ukrainian Orthodox Church, the first Ukrainian church in North America. The church was consecrated on October 14, 1899 and Arseny says it took them a few years to complete because the entire church was built by hand.

On the sixth anniversary of the death of Serbian Patriarch of blessed memory Paul, on 15 November 2015, His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Irinej officiated the Holy Liturgy at the Rakovica Monastery.

His Grace Bishop Jovan of Nis concelebrated. After the Liturgy the panichida was served at the grave of Patriarch Pavle.

Jerusalem - On Sunday, the 26th of October/8th of November 2015, the Patriarchate observed the feast of St Demetrius the glorious martyr and myrrh-bearer at the Church dedicated to his name, within the Hagiotaphite Brotherhood. Also named in honour of St Demetrius is the “AgiosDemetrios” Arabic-speaking School, intended for the children of the Patriarchate’s congregation.

On 6th November 2015, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, who was in Kampala, the capital of Uganda and See of the Holy Metropolis of Kampala and All Uganda, made pastoral visits to the Missionary Centres and Parishes of the city and the surrounding districts.

On 8th November 2015, the last day of the Patriarchal Pastoral visit to the Holy Metropolis of Kampala and All Uganda, His Beatitude Theodoros II, Pope and Patriarch of Alexandria and All Africa, inaugurated the Holy Church of St Sophia in Kampala, and then conducted the Patriarchal Divine Liturgy, together with His Eminence Jonas of Kampala, Narkissos of Nubia and His Grace Innocent of Burundi and Rwanda.
