George Mirich, Sr. Reposes in the Lord

George Mirich, Sr. fell asleep in our Lord Jesus Christ on Wednesday June 20th.  George was the president of the Executive Board of Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Church on Laird Avenue in Youngstown, OH and has been a member of the board for 44 years. He presently served as a member of the Diocesan Audit Board and was a past member of the Diocesan Council. Visiting hours will be held at the Vaschak-Kirila Funeral Home (3100 Canfield Rd. Youngstown) on Friday June 23 from 3-8 pm with Pomen at 7 pm. Funeral services will be held at Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Church on Saturday June 24 at 10 am. His Grace Bishop Irinej, together with the Members of the Diocesan Council and Diocesan Audit Board offer their most sincere condolences on behalf of the plentitude of the Serbian Orthodox Diocese of Eastern America to the faithful of the Holy Trinity Parish and Church-School Community on the loss of the dedicated leader of many years.  Memory Eternal! The Falling Asleep in the Lord of protopresbyter stavrophor Ilija Daikovich

It is with great sadness, yet with hope in the Resurrection, that we share with you the news of the passing of Very Rev. Father Ilija Daikovich, who fell asleep in the Lord June 17, 2017. Father Ilija was born on August 3, 1934 in Drusici, Rijeka Crnojevica Cetinje, Montenegro. He received his theological education in the Seminary in Prizren, Kosovo and in Belgrade, Serbia. He and Protinica Anka were married in 1958 at the Saint Sava Cathedral in New York City, and in 1959, Father Ilija was ordained to the Holy Diaconate and soon after, to the Holy Priesthood.

The Serbian Patriarch received the best pupils of religious education

His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Irinej received 16 June 2017 the best pupils of religious education in primary and secondary schools on the area of  the Archdiocese of Belgrade-Karlovci.

In cooperation with the Committee for Religious Education of the Archdiocese of Belgrade-Karlovci, the Head of the Serbian Church received the winners at the Archdiocesan competitions in religious teaching. The first three places among high school pupils were won by the Zemun High School (Gymnasium) with its religious teachers Aleksandar Milojkov  and Darko Radovanovic; the Military High School with religious teacher priest Slavko Papic , and the XIV High School with religious teacher Velibor Martinovic. Top-ranked were the pupils of the following primary schools: “Vladislav Petković Dis”, “Drinka Pavlovic”, “Gavrilo Princip“ with their religious teachers: Slobodan Petkovic, Nemanja Protic and Nebojsa Bulatovic. In addition to them, the Patriarch received pupils from the Mathematical Gymnasium with their religious teacher Predrag Djuknic.

Archbishop of the Syrian-Jacobite Church in Herzegovina

In the period from 15 to 17 June 2017, the Diocese of Zaholm-Herzegovina and Coastlands was visited by the Archbishop of the  Syrian-Jacobite Church in Sweden, His Eminence Benjamin (Atas) and His Grace Dositej, Serbian  Bishop of Britain-Scandinavia.

During this time the guests visited the monastery of Gracanica in Trebinje, the Cathedral church of the Holy Transfiguration in Trebinje as well as monasteries: Tvrdos and Duzi, that of  Saint Basil of Tvrdos  and Ostrog at Mrkonjic, the Monastery of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity and the Episcopal Palace in Mostar. They also made a pilgrimage to the monasteries of  Dobricevo and Zitomislic, the church of the Resurrection of Christ at Prebilovci and the Church community in Nevesinje.

Mission Parish Slava Celebrated in Fairmont

With the Archpastoral Blessing of His Grace Bishop Dr. Mitrophan, services were first held in Fairmont, West Virginia in 1999. The Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Mission was formally established in 2000. The first Hierarchical Divine Liturgy was celebrated on April 15, 2000. Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Mission continues as a part of the Eastern American Diocese under the Episcopacy of His Grace Bishop Irinej. 

Sunday School and Serbian School End of Year

On Saturday June 3 and Sunday June 11, the Serbian School and Sunday School attached to St. Luke Church of Washington DC, respectively ended their school years.

The Serbian School, on this day, celebrated their Slava (Ss. Constantine and Helen) completing its second year, finished the year with a short play, singing and kolo dancing, to the delight of their parents and teachers.
