SOYA Networking/leadership Conference, September 2009

Victoria University-Flinders Street Campus - The Serbian Orthodox Youth of Victoria stormed the conference rooms at Victoria University on Saturday 12 September 2009 for their inaugural Youth Leadership Conference. Over 50 vibrant, intelligent and enthusiastic young people gathered to show that the Serbian community of Melbourne is ready to change for the better. The conference highlighted the enthusiasm and overwhelming positivity of the youth regarding the future of the Serbian Orthodox Youth Association (SOYA) and the Serbian community in general.

Episcopal visit marks the beginning of the Church school year

St George Serbian Orthodox Church was blessed with a visit from His Grace Bishop Dr +Mitrofan to start off the 2009-2010 Church School Year.  The day began with Holy Hierarchical Divine Liturgy, presided over by His Grace, with many concelebrating clergy in attendance:  Very Rev Rodney Torbic, director of Religious Education in the Serbian Eastern Diocese and parish priest of St George in Charmichael, PA; Parish priest of St George in Lorain, Rev Aleksa Pavichevich; Rev Dn Dragoslav Kosic, Epicopal Deacon; and Rev Dn Zeljko Jurisic from St Archangel Michael in Akron.

Antique culture, European and Serbian heritage

On Friday, September 25 at the amphitheater of the Faculty of Orthodox Theology an international scientific symposium was opened " Antique culture, European and Serbian heritage" organized by the Society for antique studies, which president, professor Dr. Ksenija Maricki-Gadjanski organizes and runs this meeting. His Grace Bishop Dr. Irinej Bulovic of Bachka, a dean of the faculty, opened the symposion, and after that academician Dimitrije Stefanovic presented Carl Joachim Classen a Charter of Matica srpska and addressed the audience in Serbian and German.

Feastday of the Elevation of the Holy Cross in New Gracanica

At the New Gracanica Monastery, a Hierarchal Liturgy was served on the Feastday of the Elevation of the Holy Cross. Bishop Longin served, accompanied by seven priests and four deacons. At the end of the Divine Liturgy, Bishop Longin gave a sermon in which he spoke of the very event of the finding and elevation of the Holy Cross by Empress Helen and Emperor Constantine in the fourth century, but also about the importance for each one of us of carrying our own cross, or rather of struggling against sin, passions and anything else that might separate us from the love of God.

Bishop Longin visited the CSC of Saint Sava in Milwaukee

Saturday, 26th of September 2009 - His Grace Bishop Longin, along with Protopresbyter Stavrofor Marko Todorovic, visited the Church-school community of Saint Sava in Milwaukee WI. After a warm welcome on the part of Father Dragan Veleusic and Father Radomir Cutilo, the Bishop viewed the beautiful Cathedral, unique in its beauty far beyond our diocese.

Holy Hierarchal Liturgy at Patriarchate Chapel

His Eminence Metropolitan Amfilohije of Montenegro and the Littoral served the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy at a chapel of St Simeon The Myrrh-Gushingh at the Court of the Serbian Patriarchate in Belgrade. His Eminence Metropolitan ordained Dejan Todorovic a presbyter during the Holy Service of God, where ten presbyters and nine deacons concelebrated.
