Patriarch of Alexandria: It is a great blessing for Cairo and Alexandria that Saint Nektarios live in our country

Patriarch Theodore of Alexandria presided over the Divine Liturgy at the Cathedral of Saint Nicholas in Cairo, where Saint Nektarios served, near the present bazaar “Khan el-Khalili”.

One of the most historic sites is the house where Saint Nektarios lived when he was serving the Alexandrian Church as Patriarchal Vicar of Cairo.

What 2014 encyclical of Church of Greece told about cremation

A leaflet to be distributed “to the people” regarding the cremation of the dead is being drawn up by the Church of Greece which will present the Church’s position, that “the cremation of the body is incompatible with the practice and tradition of the Church for theological, canonical and anthropological reasons.”

Church of Greece to distribute leaflets about the cremation of dead

The decision to distribute leaflets to the faithful to inform them about the cremation of the dead was made at the meeting of the Standing Holy Synod which was concluded today after three-day sessions.

The Holy Synod emphasised that the Church duly stressed this issue based upon the doctrinal teaching of the Bible and the tradition of the Church.
