Bishop Atanasije (Rakita) of Mileshevo enthroned

His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Irinej officiated the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy at Milesheva monastery on 6 August 2017, and on this occasion he introduced His Grace Bishop Atanasija (Rakita) into the throne of the Bishops of Milesheva. The ceremony was attended by envoy of the President of the Republic of Serbia Mr. Nikola Selakovic, Minister of Defense Mr. Aleksandar Vulin and Minister of Justice Mrs. Nela Kuburovic.

In the presence of many Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church, representatives of state authorities, representatives of the Islamic Community of Serbia and the faithful, the solemn rite of the enthronement of His Grace Atanasije as Bishop of Milesheva was performed. Serbian Patriarch Irinej was concelebrated by His Eminence Metropolitan Porfirije of Zagreb-Ljubljana and Their Graces Bishops Justin of Zica, Teodosije of Raska-Prizren, Pahomije of Vranje, Nikanor of Banat, Joanikije of Budimlje-Niksic, Sergije Epuscopus electus of Bihac-Petrovac and Marko of Bregalnica.

Remembrance Day on Victims of the “Storm” Military Action Marked

The state manifestation dedicated to marking the Remembrance Day of the killed and expelled Serbs in the Croatian military-police action “Storm” in August 1995, when 2000 Serbs were killed and more than 200.000 expelled, was held at Veternik near Novi Sad, Serbia,  on 4 August 2017.

Serbian Patriarch Irinej served the memorial service in the presence of President of Serbia AleksandarVucic, President of Republic of Srpska Milorad Dodik, Prime Minister of Serbia Ana Brnabic,  Diocesan Bishop Irinej of Backa, Government ministers as well as by expelled Serbs, members of the families of the murdered in the “Storm” and of some 30.000 citizens.

10-Year Anniversary since the Ordination of Bishop David of Stobi

His Eminence, Bishop David of Stobi and Administrator of Strumitsa (who was ordained into the rank of a bishop on June 17 2007), on June 18 2017 celebrated the 10-year anniversary since the ordination.

Remembrance Day of the killed and expelled Serbs

On the occasion of The Remembrance Day of the killed and expelled Serbs in the military action “Storm” in Croatia 1995, in all churches of the Serbian Orthodox Church the memorial service for the victims will be served on July 5th, 2017 beginning at 11 am. The same day bells of all churches and monasteries of the Serbian Orthodox Church will rang at 12 am.

Patronal feast of Holy Prophet Elijah church in Mirijevo

 His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch, officiated the Holy Hierarchal Liturgy at the church of Holy Prophet Elijah in Mirijevo on 2 August 2017 ( phоto gallery).

His Holiness was concelebrated by local priests. 

Serbian martyrs of Velić and Gornepolima liturgically canonized

The Serbian Orthodox Church celebrated the official liturgical glorification of the Velić and Gornepolima martyrs on Friday, July 28, the 73rd anniversary of the Velić genocide, reports the site of the Serbian Orthodox Church. The martyrs were added to the calendar of saints at the recent May 14-24 session of the Holy Synod of the Serbian Orthodox Church.
