Armenia offers Germany to take part in renovation of church in Syria

Armenian lawmaker, head of the foreign relations committee Armen Ashotyan on Wednesday, November 22 met member of the German Bundestag Heribert Hirte and suggested that the German side participate in the renovation of the Armenian church of Deir ez-Zor, Syria. At a meeting in Yerevan, Ashotyan attached great importance to the interparliamentary cooperation with the Bundestag, adding that the Armenian side is ready for deeper ties.

Muslims want national holiday after Ukrainian Rada establishes second Christmas

After the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada decided yesterday to make December 25 an official holiday, representatives of other religions have also begun to call for their holidays to garner official, national recognition, reports Channel 24.

The vast majority of Ukrainians celebrate the Nativity of Christ according to the Old Calendar, which falls on the civil date of January 7, although there are about 800,000 Ukrainians who celebrate on December 25 according to the New Calendar. Ukrainian parliament officially established December 25 as a national holiday yesterday, with 238 out of 331 votes in favor.

On Sunday, October 15, 2017, His Holiness Aram I presided over the Holy Liturgy in the Catholicosate of the Holy See of Cilicia. The Holy Liturgy was celebrated by the Dean of the Armenian Theological Seminary Very Rev. Boghos Tinkjian and was dedicated to the feast of Holy Translators.

The student government of the Orthodox Theological Faculty of Belgrade, in partnership with the Evangelical Union of Students, organized a debate titled, “500th Anniversary of the Reformation: Legacy and Challenges.” Students had the opportunity to hear from Church historian Dr. George Hancock and from Dr. Roland Werner, a well-known Protestant theologian, philologist and philosopher, who has written over forty books.

Protection of Holy Sites and Worship Places in Europe and the Middle East

In the run up to the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018, European churches are urging the European institutions to increase their efforts to ensure respect and protection of places of worship and holy sites, both in the EU law and in the Common Foreign and Security Policy.

These church leaders were participants of a conference organised by the Conference or European Churches and the Church of Cyprus, in Nicosia, Cyprus, from 9-10 November.
