Biography of Archimandrite Jovan (Culibrk) elected for Vicar Bishop of Lipljan
31. August 2011 - 15:36Archimandrite Jovan (Culibrk) was born on April 16, 1965 in Zenica. He finished a high school and the grammar school in (Bosanska) Gradiska. He studied South-Slavic languages and literatures at the universities in Banja Luka and Zagreb, where he graduated at the Department for stylestics with a work on Milos Crnjanski for which he received the Branko Award of Matica Srpska in 1991 (today this work is within the book Black Sun, and a circle around it - Stvaranje, Podgorica, 2001 - it is being used at posdgraduate studies). He studied theology at Faculties of Orthodox Theology in Belgrade and Srbinje, where he graduated with a work on Nikon the Jerusalemite. He attended postgraduate studies on Jewish culture at the Yad Vashem Memorial and at the Jewish University in Jerusalem; he was the winner of the 2004 Golda Meir Award. He defended his master thesis at Dr David Bankier, the chief of the International Institute for holocaust research at Yad Vashem. He is preparing now a PhD thesis on the same subject together with Dr Yoav Gelber. He speaks English, Russian and Hebrew, also knows German, Greek and several Slavic languages.
XII Orthodox Children's Assembly in Cetinje

August 2011 - 12:20Under the motto "Country celebrates our Saviour" in Cetinje yesterday, organized by the Metropolitan of Montenegro and the Littoral, XII Orthodox Children's Assembly was held with a participation of more than a thousand children from all over Montenegro, as well as guests from Sabac and Kikinda.
Saint Sava Summer Camp in Jackson, California
21. July 2011 - 8:59One of the most spiritually nourishing events every year in the Western American Diocese is the Children’s Camp. Organized by the Diocesan Camp Committee and held during the three weeks in July and August (July 17 - August 6, 2011) at the Saint Sava Mission and Retreat Center, in Jackson, California, this Camp always attracts many children from throughout the Diocese. St Sava Summer Camp begins each year after the feast of Petrovdan and continues for three full weeks. The first week is restricted to younger campers of elementary and middle school. The second and third week are open to campers who range from those entering the first grade to the twelfth grade. St Sava is Camp is a gathering place for members of all generations. It is not uncommon to have grandparents in the kitchen, parents as lay directors and children, and even grandchildren of the same family as campers. The campground is a home away from home. Camp councelors are most often former campers who are 'giving back' their time and talent to help today's campers.

Nis - martyropolis and imperial city

June 2011 - 10:13On Friday, June 3, 2011 in a solemn hall of the University of Nis, His Holiness Irinej, Serbian Patriarch attended an opening of the 10th scientific meeting of byzanthologists Nis and Byzanth on the theme - Nis, martyropolis and imperial city. Welcome speech, on behalf of the organizational committee, was held by Dr Misa Rakocija. Afterwards Serbian Patriarch Irinej blessed the work and the participants of the meeting with an appropriate welcome speech. Also following Patriarch, M.sci Milos Simonovic, mayor of Nis and Dr Miroljub Grozdanovic, dean of the University in Nis welcomed the participants. Academician Dr Renate Pilinger from Vienna solemnly opened the 10th scientific meeting of byzanthologists. After the festive opening Dr Yanis Varalis from Volos presented the Collection of works no.9 with the papers from the last meeting. Then all the present watched a scientific documentary "Christian antique in Nis".
