His Grace Bishop Dr. Mitrofan, Serbian Orthodox Bishop of Canada, hosted an annual meeting of the Orthodox Bishops’ Conference in Canada, on June 15, 2017.

The meeting was moderated by Metropolitan Soterios of the Constantinople Patriarchate. The following hierarchs participated in the deliberations of the meeting: Bishop Job (the Moscow Patriarchate), Bishop Iovan Kasian (the Romanian Patriarchate), Bishop Daniel (the Bulgarian Patriarchate), Archbishop Ireneus (the Orthodox Church in America), Bishop Elijah from the Albanian Diocese (the Constantinople Patriarchate), Metropolitan Juriy and Bishop Andrey from the Ukrainian Diocese (the Constantinople Patriarchate), Bishop Christoph (the Constantinople Patriarchate) and Bishop of Gregory of the Carpathian Diocese (the Constantinople Patriarchate).

The Serbian Patriarch received the best pupils of religious education

His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Irinej received 16 June 2017 the best pupils of religious education in primary and secondary schools on the area of  the Archdiocese of Belgrade-Karlovci.

In cooperation with the Committee for Religious Education of the Archdiocese of Belgrade-Karlovci, the Head of the Serbian Church received the winners at the Archdiocesan competitions in religious teaching. The first three places among high school pupils were won by the Zemun High School (Gymnasium) with its religious teachers Aleksandar Milojkov  and Darko Radovanovic; the Military High School with religious teacher priest Slavko Papic , and the XIV High School with religious teacher Velibor Martinovic. Top-ranked were the pupils of the following primary schools: “Vladislav Petković Dis”, “Drinka Pavlovic”, “Gavrilo Princip“ with their religious teachers: Slobodan Petkovic, Nemanja Protic and Nebojsa Bulatovic. In addition to them, the Patriarch received pupils from the Mathematical Gymnasium with their religious teacher Predrag Djuknic.

In the period from 15 to 17 June 2017, the Diocese of Zaholm-Herzegovina and Coastlands was visited by the Archbishop of the  Syrian-Jacobite Church in Sweden, His Eminence Benjamin (Atas) and His Grace Dositej, Serbian  Bishop of Britain-Scandinavia.

During this time the guests visited the monastery of Gracanica in Trebinje, the Cathedral church of the Holy Transfiguration in Trebinje as well as monasteries: Tvrdos and Duzi, that of  Saint Basil of Tvrdos  and Ostrog at Mrkonjic, the Monastery of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, the Cathedral of the Holy Trinity and the Episcopal Palace in Mostar. They also made a pilgrimage to the monasteries of  Dobricevo and Zitomislic, the church of the Resurrection of Christ at Prebilovci and the Church community in Nevesinje.

On Saturday June 3 and Sunday June 11, the Serbian School and Sunday School attached to St. Luke Church of Washington DC, respectively ended their school years.

The Serbian School, on this day, celebrated their Slava (Ss. Constantine and Helen) completing its second year, finished the year with a short play, singing and kolo dancing, to the delight of their parents and teachers.

Eastern Diocese Council meets in Cleveland

The Diocesan Council of the Eastern American Diocese met on June 9 at St. Sava Cathedral in Cleveland, its first meeting since its election at the last Diocesan Assembly in February.

Chaired by His Grace Bishop Irinej, the Council considered a number of questions of importance to the life of the Diocese, its parishes and faithful.

Bishop Irinej offers keynote at IOCC's 25th Anniversary

On Friday, June 9th, International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) celebrated their 25th anniversary with a gala event near Cleveland, Ohio. 

The evening began with a cocktail hour featuring entertainment by “Sarena”, a local tamburitza orchestra. In a pleasant atmosphere over drinks and appetizers, guests were able to enjoy fellowship with Orthodox Christians from multiple jurisdictions, united to serve God in service to others.
